Do I need a Techno 2?

I have a new-ish Techno 1 that looks great for it's age. Do i really need to go out and get the Techno 2? The Spyderco byte compared them side by side and besides the blade, it still retains a lot of what the original offered. I love the Techno and am pretty excited about the 2. Still paying off the Christmas gifts so money's tight though.

I'm not asking if the Techno 2 will be better. I'm just trying to rationalize/justify buying one.

If you like the design then buy it.

The Techno 2 has a thinner blade stock I believe which will make it almost certainly a better cutter.

Do you need it? Hell no!

Don’t let that stop you from buying it though.

The Techno has been out for quite a while. The new Techno2 will most likely be out for quite a while. I think it is a safe bet you could wait and not miss out. After all you are still paying off Christmas expenses.

However, I do get your desire to get the Techno 2.

Depends on what type of collector you are.

There are those who want/need to collect every variation of a particular knife model ever made. This can keep you very busy, especially if the knife is a Spyderco, where many variations of certain models like the Para Military 2 are in abundance.

Don't think there is that much risk of multiple variations of the Techno but, who knows? Shouldn't matter as long as you like the knife and have no problem owning more than 1 of them, even if there is very little difference between the 2.

Personally, I do not like collecting more than 1 variation of a knife. There are certain exceptions which make sense only to me and that I feel no need to justify to anyone else.

Why one collects anything only need make sense to the collector who spends the time and money to build the collection and who garners pleasure from that endeavor. So, if you can afford it, buy the Techno 2 if it will give you pleasure and don't mind what any of us (or what anyone else) says about it.

Well it wouldn't be to collect. It'd be to replace the Techno 1 i'm using. I really want the 2, but again, it's still up in the air...
But it really looks the same xD

I would personally wait if you're still paying off christmas gifts. The techno isn't going anywhere anytime soon. They are readily available on the 2nd hand market for MSRP or lower. It's a great knife, high quality. Save up and buy!

It’s considerably different: https://www.bladeforums.com/threads/techno-2-in-my-hands-finally.1637423/

And below today’s setup (fixedblade Friday) with T2 as a companion blade:

I tried to collect multiple variations of each Spyderco... But my wife and my checkbook have put an end to that dream...
