I just got my used Bader B III going. I purchased it used and had to buy the tooling arm and flat platen. It is a 1.5 hp model with a 6" drive wheel.I still only have $500 in it so it was a deal I think.

I have only ground on a friends BIII that is variable speed and I usually only run it about half speed.I don't remember the exact numbers.

I assume this one I have is going to run very fast.Do you experienced folks recommend a smaller drive wheel for most final grinding? In the past I have done quite a bit of grinding on my blades after heat treat. What size drive wheel would be my next best purchase?

I use a small drive wheel all the time on mine, for all the grinding, I wish I could remember what size it is, I think its a 4 inch. I noticed your in Bama, always welcome come down and forge sometime,Charlie I have seen a guy have a drive wheel machined close to 2 inches to slow the grinder down, I wanted to do that just havent gotten around to it yet, good luck buddy,Charlie

Thanks for the input and the invite.I would love to visit sometime.I have only forged a handful of blades so far and need all the help and information I can get.I'll try to get in touch after May.Right now I'm trying to build a new house and shop and learn to make knives all at the same time.
