Do I really want a Spyderco Dice?

Absconded articles. Many SAKs and all types of knives.
Also, good luck with ANY lawsuit against the TSA.

I have a Domino, not a Dice, it's a really well built knife. The carbon fiber scale is great, it feels good in the hand and adds a lot of traction. I should add that my ZT 0900 beat it out of my pocket for good I think. I haven't had an urge to pocket my Domino since I got it. It's not necessarily better, but for my personal taste I much prefer it to my Domino.

If a mini tank of a knife appeals to you I'd suggest the 0900 wholeheartedly. It's an amazing knife. Blade length is 2.75 inches. Weighs 4.3 ounces so it's not a lightweight. And the action is superb. Which is a huge plus in a flipper.

I thought about that one but the weight seemed like a bit much for the size. Even the Dice seemed heavy for the size.

I wish there was a big store that stocked all these different models so I could get my hands on them before buying.

When it's in the pocket I don't notice the weight at all, but when it's in hand I do. Now every time I hold my mini grip I feel like it's weightless, haha. No doubt it's a fatty.

I'm not trying to dissuade you from you from your original choice, the Dice would be a fine knife considering your perimeters.

I have both a spyderco dice, and the spyderco techno.

Overall, the Dice is a better at being a knife than the techno. The blade is thin, it cuts well, and its the only 2.5 inch knife I've found that works well with my xl sized hands.

That being said, I enjoy carrying the techno much more. The dice is a small knife that takes up a lot of space in the pocket due to the flipper. the Dice's clip and carry are also pretty high. I've considered grinding the flipper off mine to make it a bit better carry, but it still needs a better clip.

my summary for 2.5 inch knives (when I was looking):

If you want a nice knife for occasional cutting, get a techno, or perhaps a zdp dragonfly. I found the dragonfly handle too small for my liking.

If you want a nice knife for lots frequent cutting at 2.5 inches, the dice is a great knife. I've not handled a better option. The handle is great, the blade is great.

Cheaper option to consider is the pillar by crkt, you will get most of the functionality of the techno for a cheaper cost.

I recently bought a Dice after settin it on sale. Flipping action isn't stellar, but if you pay attention to the flip it works perfectly fine, and the thumb hole also works perfectly. It's a fantastic little knife, and the XHP in it can take a Hell of a thrashing and keep asking for more.

That said, I wouldn't recommend the Dice as your checked bag knife, because they are getting hard to find now, and knives like to run away in the airport. I wouldn't suggest carrying anything over $30 in the event it runs away.

The Dice actually has a 2.52 inch blade. It is just long enough over to get you in trouble in those "commie" places you mentioned.

I think you were given good advice about carrying a cheap knife. I bought a Spyderco Cat several years ago for this reason. If you need a flipper, (not legal in some of your "commie" cities) I would recommend the Kershaw Scallion in whatever color you like.

Check out the ZT0900 - It's a little heavier than the dice but it's built like a tank and flips as well as any flipper I own. (2.7" blade)
