Do most heat treat companies use standard heat treat?

Heat treating most all carbon steels is just time at temperature it's in a book. Adjusting either of these and you change the results. That's what a knife forger should know in order to turn out sound blades that possess the qualities desired. Understanding the process of heat treating adds a great deal to the craft itself. Just having a pretty face, does not a knife make. The real beauty is inside the steel itself.
