Do most people actually use their Striders or higher end knives???

My EDC fo the last five years has been a large classic Sebbie with the same birthday as mine. Th only time it's been out of my pocket was two weeks a couple years ago when my wife sent it to Butch Vallotton for my birthday. It gets re-anodized by me whenever it gets too scuffed up or I just get a wild hair and feel the need to try something new (stone is a faceted Citrine).

I find that most knife guys I meet don't use their knives a tenth as much as they portray. I too am quilty of this, my dirty old LM Wave sees more use than any of my other knives. Most of them are relegated to tasks I could probably just use my hands for. The Wave is on my hip at work al day and I have a who gives a F##% attitude about it. I know my others knives can hnadle the beating, but geez then I have to clean it and sharpen it which takes time away from buying other knives.

I carry them a lot, but don't use them as often as I'd like. There are not enough reasons in a day to make heavy use of them. I carry the umnumzaan, sebenza's, xm-18 most of the time. Sometimes I mix it up. But I have some safe queens too.

I have less knives than many people here, and it is still hard to use them all frequently. Eventually, they all make it into rotation.

I dont own any knives that cost over $150, but that is only because of my limited income. Eventually I would like to have some custom slip-joints made -and I will use them.

I keep all my knives loose in a drawer, so that they get little scratches that remind me -they are for using.

props to those who buy expensive knives and use them in the way the designer designed them for...

my most expensive purchase is a lg. sebenza that i use primarily as a fishing knife and rests in my fishing pack; i made it a point to use it for that to remind me that it is a working knife, not a flipping toy...

Well, due to my limited budget, a Ti Kershaw Tyrade is my most expensive folder, and I do try to carry and use it somewhat regularly, although most of my knife use tasks are easy and rarely "beat up" my folders.

My Striders all get a healthy daily workout. My DDC SnG CC has been through the ringer.

Took my Randall 15 to Afghanistan with me, continue to use it today. I do have a drawer full of others collecting dust though.

i dont think its a strech to say that their are wayyy more unused pristine higher end knives out there then users.

especially considering most consider striders, CRK to be the start of higher end, that price point is literally the tip of the iceberg for the custom world. sure people use their sebenza, but how many use their insert custom maker 1200 folder or 3000 fixed blade?

but thats just to be expected. very few would spend thousands on a user with tons of users available at much less.

me, i have a harder time using some of my NIB spydercos then my striders, umnumzaan, yuna, WDZ azreal, and my just arrived demko AD 10 is going to see some serious use. go figure.

i too have a user ti tyrade, but it hasn't seen much use as some others as i don't have a need to edc such a large knife in pocket...but when it does get used i have no hesitation to dig and pry with it when necessary...

in the end, it's just a friggen knife, just built more robustly than most...

Most expensive I used was a $400 Dozier folding hunter. Currently I've a CRK Mnandi in my pocket. To be honest though, both knives were already users, so it'd be stupid to keep them as safe queens.

Some higher end knives I do keep for collection purposes simply aren't as practical as others for regular work; no point in using them if the designs don't lend well to regular activities.

Speaking for myself, I have so many knives and have had so many, that few of them get that much use. I had a Strider PT that I carried a good bit, but my SMF didn't see much pocket time -- not great for the office. When I later sold it, I hadn't used it enough to show wear....

I'm an electrician, so I use my small and large Sebenza 21 everyday, to strip wires, ream conduits, open boxes, open bags, cut zip ties, cut electrical tape, cut sheetrock, lunch&dinner duties, clean fingernails, cut loose threads and a few times they get used for scraping or to hammer a little.

And then I come home and I use them all day at home, to open letters, boxes, supper duties.

They see ALL of my pocket time.

I sold all my other cheaper knives since they had no purpose, only other knife I own is a AG Russel Acies which is being customized right now...can't wait for that one to get back, it will most likely take over the EDC spot..s90v and a pivot bushing....

I've pretty much stopped buying expensive folders because I find I don't use them. My main EDC is an FRN Spyderco Endura Clipit (1st gen) with G2 plain edge blade. I have a spare in case it ever breaks. The most expensive knife I EDC is a Benchmakde 710.

My Wilkins Grip stays in the drawer for the most part because I don't want to use it hard. All my other high end folders are sold.

Little bit of both over here. Never take my microtechs out but my small Sebenza 21 sees plenty of action around town.
