Do off-center blades bother you?

Yes, it bothers me more than I want it to. I also have a priceline sanity break point. Anything off center under $100 becomes a user in rotation. Anything between $101 and $250 it better be darn close to center and I'll stare at it a while thinking that may help before I contemplate a call to send it back [stupid non metal bending brain] and anything above $251 I see no real excuse for it passing QA off center. That's just me though. Fortunately, I don't get that many off center. *Whew* Feels good to get it off my chest. Thanks for the thread!

For what I have to pay in the end to get a USA made knife over here it bothers me a lot:grumpy:
So is blade play:barf:

The off centreness of my Chestnut bone Peanut with the clip blade nearly touching/rubbing the centre liner is what's keeping me from carrying as much as I would.:(

But maybe if I get over it and use it a bit more the blade will correct itself a bit.

Besides that the knife is picture perfect:thumbup:

As long as there is no contact with the liners when closing the blade, no problem. Side to side blade play drives me up the wall because I know that over time it will only get worse.

Blade play bothers me. A lot.
I have very few knives that have perfectly centered blades. I can get over weak springs sometimes but blade play really chaps my chilli.

Just got a Custom 2 Blade Trapper for $100 and both Blades go to the right and almost hit the Liners and I am thinking about whether I want to bitch about it or let it go.! Nice looking Knife though but it does bother me about the Blades.

Just wondering your thoughts of off center blades on a user knife. I've got a lovely G-10 Peanut, the main blade of which almost, but not quite, rubs the handle when in the closed position.
It seems to have no impact at all on usability. But there's a touch of OCD in me that is bothered by it.
Is this a deal breaker for anyone?

On a working knife, perfectly centered blades are a "nice-to-have" for me, not a "gotta-have".
Definitely not a deal breaker.

aslong blades don't rub liners, I am pretty much fine with off centered blades. There once was time when off centering was bad enough reason for me to disregard knife and put it on give away or such but I've kinda got over it. I have one pretty Queen knife where main blade is off center. I just like it so much that I am not bothered by main blade being off centered.

Big time. There are only a couple of tolerances on a knife (centering, lock up) and I would hope that if you make knives (as a company or an individual), you can get these 2 right.

I have yet to buy a knife online and when I buy in my go to store the owner knows to grab a couple from the back so I can look at them and choose the "more perfect" one

In a new knife it certainly does bother me, especially when the knife is from one of the big US makers who should know better...but older knives I have they are off center (possibly from bends or kinks from use over time) it isnt so much of an issue to me.

I guess if any of my knives were all perfectly centred...I would be even more happy with them, what bothers me a lot more is blade play...that annoys the hell out of me., but off centre - no, unless it gets bad enough where I'd have to control the closing of the knife because it would rub...then yes that would then bother me greatly.
As most have said...quite a few of my knives are slightly off centre, but is not an issue.

That's one of the main reasons than I've stopped buying knives in the US.
The possible disappointment and the hassle of sending the knive back and pay twice for the knife to get it back:grumpy:
I only buy an occasional SAK on line because with those I'm about 99.9% sure to get a good one.

I'm sure any of the members close by a knife dealer would happily help you out to ensure you got a quality piece you don't have to return...I'm the same way even when in the US, I love buying from in the classifieds here over ebay or the like solely because I feel I can trust the members on here to not hide any flaws that may be on the knife I wish to buy.

Have you made a lot of folding knives? Every piece is made to a set of tolerances. Miss the placement of one hole by 0.001" and the blade can be thrown off-center.

I like to use my knives - despite owning WAY too many knives -not a collector. I've been able to pick up some excellent cutting tools for "use without pain" prices because blades were off centred. Some have been easily fixed and some have worked just fine for months or years of hard use without it getting worse or in any way affecting the usefulness of the tool. Now blade play -whether vertical or s2s - that bugs the daylights out of me and I won't own/use a knife that has play.
