Do quality leather belts exist anymore?

I am in need of a new leather belt. Plain silver-colored buckle. Black leather, and built to last. The last several belts have all been garbage and eventually look like trash. I have been looking online but reviews for belts as top end as Filson seem to indicate that long-lasting belts do not exist anymore. I wish Saddleback would make me a belt :( Anybody have any suggestions?

All the other posts on this thread mention a gun belt......I can't find that in your post. Are they assuming you mean a gun belt?

rayban, if they made something tougher than a gun belt it would in short order start being called a "gun belt":p I don't always carry 2 pounds of steel on my hip but crappy looking wimpy belts piss me off;)

I have used belts made by Mitch Rosen for Dillion Precision for a few years now. These are double thickness cowhide are are very study as the are made for holding the weight of handguns. Also have a belt made by Wild Bills Concealment Holsters (Located in NC I believe) that I have worn for over 10 years. I looks like crap now, but is still a great belt.

+1 on the Dillon belts made by Mitch Rosen. Good quality stuff.

Then allow me to suggest cowhide, instead of the vinyl you've been buying:D

May cut my own in a few years. I usually keep a shoulder or two in 7~8# & 9~11# around for tooling:D Been thinking of making a belt in 2 pieces probably 4 to 6# weight with a piece of heavy nylon sandwiched between them glued and stitched to make it more rigged.

I have made a few over the years this way. The last one I made was 15 years ago from a 10-12 oz hide. It's a custom just under two inches wide and has remained stiff. I took a solid piece of brass from an old expansion plate, the kind used in older buildings with terrazzo flooring and made a buckle from it.

Cutting a belt out of a leather hide is relatively easy.

IF it will ever be used as a gun belt I can recommend Galco Contour belt and something from The Beltman.com. A STIFF gun belt assures that your firearm holster is where you want it or put it.

Pretty, limp dress belts don't cut it for that use.

+1 for The Beltman. I have a 1.25" that is great for either carry or simply as a very nice dress belt. Per the OPs requirements, Beltman offers black with a chrome buckle.

I got a Schmidt Workwear belt from Tractor Supply the other day. It was a little dry, so I took some leather conditioner to it, and it is great now. Heavy duty, and very tough feeling.
