do the "mail" people work on weekends?

Mail isn't delivered on Sundays but it is shipped to Post Offices and flown around the country.

In many areas, Priority and Express Mail can be delivered on Sundays and holidays for a small extra fee. Sometimes, they do it without the extra fee just to get the stuff out of the way. This happens most often near Christmas when mail volumes can become overwhelming and they just have to keep it moving all the way through.

The post office remains very busy on Sundays and holidays.

Nothing moves on weekends in Canada. Regular mail sorting happens on Saturdays, but nothing (except priority/express/overnight stuff) actually goes anywhere. If one were to send a regular letter from (for example) London, Ont. to Bayfield, Ont (about a 40 minute drive?) the letter would go from mailbox, to London's "sorting offices", to Windsor's "sorting offices", to T.O.'s offices, back to London (I am not making this up! This is actually how much in-province mail is routed!) and then finally off to Bayfield. Assuming the letter is lucky and ends up on the top of every pile along the way (or for some reason skips Windsor), it's going to spend 4 days being sorted. Canada Post is TREMENDOUSLY slow!
