Do these look familiar?

This is gonna sound bad. But Bill's are bigger and better than that. ;)

They are not at all comparable other than shape.

As the advertisment does not give the provenance there is no way to tell the quality without testing.

Some good, quite decent knives come out of Kathmandu. And so does absolute junk.

Mr. Martino has been trying for years to overcome the idea that all khukuris are junk. He is beginning to make headway. The problem is that other knives for sale from Nepal are too often made for tourists, and involve only the most basics to make the thing look good, rather than holding up to being used. Hurry up and finish even more is their watchword.

Air freight costs something like $20.oo a kilo from Nepal to the US. Subtract that from the $30 or $40 the knife costs.

I will guarantee the stuff on that site is not Himalayan Imports. A simple hard slap of the blade's side against a tree or iron post will prove so.

I just was sure it wasn't HI because if it was Uncle Bill is way overcharging us over here, and knemw that wouldn't happen, so knew they weren't his.

The better is just my making assumptions because I"ve never seen better than HI, least not for that price. Have seen some from various places that were as good(least for any testing I could put them through)

To be perfectly honest, I didn't notice the price. Some of the pieces looked similar to HI's because they use the same models, i'm sure. I just thought some of us would get a kick out of them.

with a frequency too great to be coincidence, I've read what HAS to be a direct plagarism from Himalayan Import copy in other ads.

Some folks might find the research and articulation in the site here to be so precise that they can't resist the temptation to use it.

There's several places to buy Nepalese khukuris from. Problem is you don't know anything about the kami that made them. You don't know what steel it was made from, or to what standard of quality (i.e. emphasis on eye catching looks or durability/performance). You can't assume you'll be dealing with people of Uncle Bill's undisputed honor and integrity. Chances are you'll get a recorded message prompting you to press buttons on your phone that'll take you to other recorded messages.

I hope folks do buy them other people's khukuris, kamis gotta eat, whether they work at Bir Ghorka or not. But there's a lot of sound reasons why I don't need to look any further than Himalayan Imports if I need a khukuri.;)
