Mr. Martino has been trying for years to overcome the idea that all khukuris are junk. He is beginning to make headway. The problem is that other knives for sale from Nepal are too often made for tourists, and involve only the most basics to make the thing look good, rather than holding up to being used. Hurry up and finish even more is their watchword.
Air freight costs something like $20.oo a kilo from Nepal to the US. Subtract that from the $30 or $40 the knife costs.
I will guarantee the stuff on that site is not Himalayan Imports. A simple hard slap of the blade's side against a tree or iron post will prove so.
