Do we want to have an HI khukuri Konvention in Florida this winter?

We have a lot of HI Khukuri nephews in Florida. Ray C. being the oldest with the mostest. If there is an interest by enough people maybe we should try to do it. Ideas? Comments? Yes? No? Where? When.

I vote for Miami because it's easy for me to get a flight there and I can crash with brother, Ray, and he cooks dynamite Italian food. I like Dec or Jan because it will get me out of Reno in winter. But this is just me.

Let's kick it around.

Florida in winter is probably a lot smarter than Nevada in summer. So sure, why not? August will be a trial run and we should have enough members around then to find out what we will want next time around: lodging, rooms, meeting areas, demos, etc.

I wonder how the south will take to your insistence on calling it a Khukuri Konvention? That term just smacks of Klan to me and I personally will keep calling it a Gathering of Khukurati.

Well you definitely have my vote for a Khuk Konvention down here. =) What am I going to say? I live here, I definitely would prefer it being here. No offense to those who would have to travel but a friend of mine's father works for Cunard (I know you won't be able to sail here but he knows the loops of travel) and another friends mother works for Royal Caribbean. It all depends on where in Florida we decide to hold it. Also, almost forgot the other acquiantance who works for Marriot =) in Reservations.

I'm definitely interested, Bill. Although Jan/Feb is generally better for me than Dec/Jan, as long as I don't have conflicting obligations, I'l try to make whatever dates are decided upon.

A Florida Konvention sounds good to me. However, if we do decide to do it, I doubt that I'll attend the Aug. gathering in Reno. Florida is closer and I really can't afford to do both -- especially if they're only going to be 4 or 5 months apart.

Alabama, ... Florida... I can drive to this one! It would be a long day's drive, but hey, it's a lot closer than Reno! As long as Mama isn't in the Hospital (or REAL near due date) having baby #6 when y'all decide to have it, I'll do all I can to make it. Maybe Edd, Chris (X-Head), and I can make it a car-pool type thing, that way no one would be really killed by the driving. Let's see what happens with this one.

Naturally, since I live here, I like Florida too. Only, I'd suggest Pensacola Beach, in the northwestern Panhandle. Pensacola is a lot less crowded than Miami, has the best beaches in Florida, is less expensive than south Florida, and takes Confederate money.
 
Sure, I'll try my best (work schedule can get erratic at times). Miami works best for me, too.

Ray, can you take over as the head man on this one? You make all the decisions from your end down there because I don't know what is going on in your part of the world and can't decide anything on an intelligent basis. I know whatever you do will be the best for all involved and that's what we want.

The Jan/Feb time frame seems okay to me -- gets me out of Reno and to some warmer weather at that time. Ray, I can fly into Miami and we can take it from there or I can probably get a flight into any other major city so wherever, whenever, set it up nephews. I'm easy.

Florida is a great place to have it, but it seems to me that we ought to opt for a city farther north than Miami. Pensacola is a great place, and as has already been noted, is cheaper and less crowded. It would also be much closer for those folks who don't live in Florida. Let's face it, Miami is so far south that it is convenient only for those people living right around Miami. For everyone else, especially out-of-staters, it adds an extra day's drive. Just my 2 cents worth.

One point to consider in the selection of sites is airfare. IIRC, there are typically several airlines offering deeply discounted fares to Miami during the Winter months; however, expect for perhaps Orlando, I don't recall seeing such discounts to other FL destinations.

For that & a few personal reasons, my vote goes to Miami.
