Do y'all still carry cheaper knives once you've bought higher quality ones?

I still have a few inexpensive knives that I like & carry...but, honestly, having better knives, I don't find myself browsing the cheaper stuff anymore. Luckily, I've broken the compulsive drive to buy; so I'm not going hog wild on the expensive stuff, either.

Did a full hollow regrind on this $4 little 440 knife last night. Now it cuts like the dickens, despite being a "trash" knife. Used to be fully serrated, too. Made by a company called MAC Coltellerie that mostly makes diving and marine knives.

Its hard to beat the thin sharp blade of the Kershaw leek but I mostly carry my sebenza 21 and the star tac ummmnumzaan. Once you go crk it's next to impossible for me to go backwards.

Yes, I do. The ergos of a couple of cheap knives I own are spot on for me. I just wish they were made out of better steel.

I own some higher end knives such as sebenza and mnandi but I carry dragonfly and Manbug the most

Absolutely, almost any knife in my collection will be carried some day .

I have one CRK and a couple of Microtechs, which are my most expensive knives, followed by a few ZT's and a Bad Monkey. I pick from those when Im not at work. At work I carry a Spyderco, and Cold Steel XL when I feel the need for it. No way would I carry Chinese Kershaws anymore, I mean whats the point? MOST of the time with knives you get what you pay for, in my experience. My more expensive knives are generally better materials, better craftsmanship, stronger, hold an edge longer, etc.

My first "quality" folder ever was a benchmade 583 barrage. I think it was about 6 years ago, and it cost me around $150. can't remember. fast forward to today, and I have multiple knives worth $500+ and hardly ever carry them. love my manix 2 for edc. I'm not overly wealthy, so I have to keep my collector side under control. Keeping my "shiny" stuff in good shape and trade ready, and 1 or 2 less expensive users lying around is a good medium for me. Allows me to get my hands on the stuff that I really want, while still being able to enjoy using some great performers care-free :). This all depends on what you consider more or less expensive. Use what makes you happy, and collect what makes you happy.

Have CRKs and Striders and other midrange productions that get weekend or evening out carry...but at work a humble Dragonfly or small fixed blade's the ticket.

Hey Sillyship,

Fellow New Mexican here and to answer your question-

I had an XM-18, have a few CRK's (and used to have a bunch and probably selling the ones I still have) and I'm finding that what I carry most are a SAK Cadet and some version of a Cold steel Triad Lock folder. That or a Mille, or an Endura. I'm a Fireman and I find the thought of beating on a Hinderer absurd! Plus I'd probably lose it before I broke it anyhow.
There are so many super performance knives available now that are just plain cheap. I can afford really expensive tools just don't see the point in damaging/wearing out expensive tools when I can get pretty much the same service out of a much less expensive one.
BTW- the Large Recon 1 is a beast!

I'm a practical guy. When I'm at work, I want to carry a practical knife. To me, a practical knife is something that will do the job, and does not have a value so high that I will resist using it for certain tasks. Sure, I have and carry some expensive knives, but not for work. When I am at work, I carry my $20.00 Ganzo knife. I got it a couple years ago thinking that I would beat the crap out of it and not care. Surprisingly, the knife has held up very well. I save my CKF knives, my CRK's, and my ZT knives for when I am off work. I'll cut open a package from Amazon with one of them, or keep them in my pocket to prepare for possible self defense situations, but nothing resembling actual work.

I mainly carry my ZT's or Benchmades. Do you like the SOG vulcan? I was always kinda interested in that blade.

I enjoy nicer folders, but good quality doesn't have to mean terribly expensive.

My most used utility knife is a Real Steel E77

At under $25, I don't worry about any damage but I think it will hold up for a long time. It is one solid built knife.
