I buy NIB or ANIB off of the Exchange about 97% of the time. Rarely a new one from a knife-shop. I don't have the money for that.

Same here.

Most of my collection (as it stands now) is made up of rare, discontinued, limited productions, illegal, custom/customized, or just hard to get knives. Also alot of times the street price is higher than the secondary market price, like the ZT0560CBCF. I suspect the Kershaw Ruby 4040 will be the same. So I may just wait for a NIB one to pop up on the exchange.

I always prefer the knife to be new, but if I don't have a choice I'll take it as I can get it.

I prefer to buy new. I feel like I have more of a special connection with the knife especially if I like it. I will buy used depending on the knife, condition and price though.

What ever I can get my mitts on. In all seriousness, I have never looked at which I buy more of. I guess it depends on whether I think I can get a good deal from a dealer on the knife in question.

Right now my "family" is about 50/50, but over the years I've bought far more from the secondary market (used, from the forums) than I have new and my first choice is always to buy used if possible. There's just something I really like about "rescuing" something that someone else doesn't want or can't use. Dogs... cars... guns... knives...

I'm fairy new to knives as part of my EDC, but I'll be honest....I look at some of the prices in that used folder forum and I don't see any reason why I wouldn't just buy a lot of them new. Most people are asking all the money for a knife that's readily available. I could see if it's a limited run or no longer in production....but when I just picked up a Sage2 for $145 shipped from Amazon and I see them for $135 used....why wouldn't I just spend the extra $10? So....new for this guy.

I have seen so many great deals here on the exchange. I mostly will buy used so save the money and not have to worry about reducing the value by using it because it already has been.

I also do over half of my knife acquisitions through trades. I can get even better deals through trades than I could through buying, but that takes time and energy. Trading is a hobby all to itself.

I'm probably about 60-70% new, 30-40% used. Depends on the cost and availability of the knife. I've gotten some great deals here on the Exchange, and passed some up that I now wish I had snagged when the chance was there. But there's always the next time.

Twice I bought stuff here and seller lied about condition of item.

Never again.

I've had similar experiences. Just be careful who you buy from. CHECK THEIR FEEDBACK. If they're dirty, the feedback will show sooner or later. I've only had about two or three "bad" deals out of approx. 150 during the last two yrs. Most folks are honest, and I seldom worry about a knife that I buy ANIB or NIB on the Exchange from another individual.
I guarantee all of my sales/trades...that the knife MUST be in the condition as stated, or we reverse the deal. It's the proper way to deal, IMO.
Only one guy asked to return a knife that I sold him, for poor "craftsmanship" from the fixed-blade maker, and I refunded his money immediately. I still have the knife and won't put it up for sale...ever again.

I greatly prefer used. If the person knows how to detail condition, then you get a knife in perfect mechanical condition for a deep discount. Sometimes you can also get a knife in like new condition that also doesn't have the gamble of quality control.

All my day-to-day users have been via the exchange or "other used sources", CL, pawn shops and fleabay. I prefer to buy used for users - generally cheaper, and knives are not like less durable goods. unless they have been abused, used works just as well.

99% of my collections knives are used AND are fixed blades. Most of the knives I get are used/really used as they are almost all discontinued models from dead companies (exceptions - Kabar and Buck are still around) - e.g., Western, Camillus, PAL, Robeson, etc. So rarely are real "minty fresh" examples available.

Kabar, BK&T by Kabar, Buck and CRKT are the only ones I buy from existing companies. Some are NIB, but they should be called used because they are secondary market.

Most of what I have bought was new. Occassionally I've picked up a used knife off the exchange but usually its a discontinued model. Once I bought one off the bay that wasnt discontinued but as it happens it was from a local guy and also a BF member. Small world. When buying used, check the feedback and scrutinize the photos. And always ask questions.

I just counted, only 3 of my knives currently in my collection (of 30-40) were purchased new, the rest have come from here on the X or individual sellers on eBay/amazon or open box from amazon "wear house deals".

I probably own 35-40 knives, and of those I'd have to say that I bought probably 7 or 8 of them brand new. I prefer to buy used because I don't care if they are worn, and I can usually resell them for exactly how much I paid.

New is nice but also expensive. If I need a user and I can find one secondhand, I do my research and make a decision. Those who don't buy used are missing out, there is something to be said about one's feedback rating. Usually it is the first thing I look at when considering striking a deal. A man's only as good as his word.

Mostly new. Have bought a few classic slipjoint knives that are no longer in production though. The knives I buy now are modestly priced, under a couple hundred dollars, so its less time & hassle to buy new. I've got enough higher end knives and customs to last me awhile already.
