Do you buy multiples?

All my knives are users, and I don't have a lot of money to spend. But yes, I have a few knives that I felt I'd be upset if I lost and couldn't replace, so I bought duplicates. I also have a small collection of Buck 303s and 305s in variations if that counts.

Yeah, I buy multiples all the time. Just ordered two (2) GEC #73 Scout liner lock knives with ebony covers today.

I have many multiples of the same pattern and blade selection, but with different covers. Typically I will buy two, three or four of a different pattern if I like the model, but my DISEASE is the #53 Cuban Stockman . . . . I have 38 different ones.

I don't have any duplicates as in the exact same knife but I do have a couple GEC patterns that I really love and have several of the same knife with different handle material like one bone and one wood.

no, i dont buy multiples of the same knife. so far i havent even bought similar knives with different covers or whatever. i do have a few knives i dont carry for sentimental reasons although i carried them before i started accumulating knives.

Yes. I use all of my knives, but some more than others. The patterns I have the most of and see the most pocket time are the Case Texas Jack and GEC # 15.

Not really. I'd rather use the cash to try something different. I might get more than one of the same pattern, but not exactly the same knife.

No. While owning more knives than I truly need is already a luxury, owning multiples just feels like an additional level of luxury I can't quite reconcile. Plus, I buy all my knives with the intention of using them, so I've never felt much need to have a 'safe queen' copy.

Like most that have posted, not exact duplicates, but variations of the same knife, yeah I've been known to do that, probably the worse case were the Lancet models from William Henry, I think I had at least 7-10 of them though out the years, beautiful knife but I grew out of that phase, thank goodness as they have jumped in price so much!

But as for traditionals, I'm getting hooked on the Montana Workhorse model, mainly the two bladed version, I have devious plans in my wittle head to try and get a nice jigged bone one and probably a nice stag one too, to go along with the bark ivory I already have. I have the 3 bladed version and am content with that, for now, but might look for a nice stag one of those one of these days, ;) yeah, I need help!

I buy users.
I do have a couple of 301's. Those tend to come and go, as I give them as gifts.

I don´t buy multiples. I might have some pattern with the same frame, but not the very same knife.

Imo I´m a collector as well as a user of knives. I try to get as much different patterns/frameshapes that seem to be useful to me.

(Though I was almost thinking about getting the one or other userknife as a mutliple - but it seems that I hardly loose my knives)

I do at times, but will typically use them as gifts. Sometimes I might have them for a year or two, but eventually they migrate. :D.

Yep, I buy multiples. I started out with only buying 1 of a pattern to try/use, then eventually bought more of the same patterns I liked with different cover materials. Now I'll buy multiples if its a knife I really like. I have more than a few doubles and even a few triples of the (almost, these are natural covers after all) same knife.

I buy multiples only so I can have a choice of which one I want to keep since I cannot hand pick any GECs at retail stores. When I've decided on my keeper, I usually sell off the other one. I like wood covers, and the grain in the wood covers can vary greatly from one another. Buying multiples allows me to choose the wood grain that is the most appealing to me. Unfortunately, this does not always work to my advantage... Sometimes I'll have a hard time re-selling the extra knife, or I might have to take a small loss on the price.

Occasionally, I'll also buy multiples of a limited pattern that I really like just in case I lose or break my user. That way, I have a back up of a knife that cannot be easily replaced. This doesn't happen too often, and when it does happen, I usually sell off the back-ups anyways (it's really an affordability issue more than anything else).

I have also ended up buying multiples to use as gifts. Knives make the best gifts in my opinion.

I would collect if I could afford to, but since I cannot, I try to keep my knives at a minimum of just a few users. This can obviously be a bit difficult at times as well. :D

I have some duplicates of Gerber Silver Knights, but have given away some of the duplicates over time. I will have multiples of one pattern if it really strikes a chord with me such as Case's mini copperhead and GEC's 15 boys knives (and Charlie's Barlows) but none of them are exactly the same. I admit to owning several Case full size and mini trappers as well. I have two GEC #66 jacks but different handles. I have been lately considering if I should keep all of the knives I have. I certainly don't need them all, but I'm not sure I can part with many of them.

I'm going through the same soul searching regarding other areas of my "hoarding". I'm at a place where having a "bunch of stuff" is less attractive to me than it once was.

Will common sense win out? Will my sickness continue? Idunno.

There are only two occasions when I buy more than one of the same knife. First would be is if I lost or the knife I like was filched. I have had three different CASE stockman knives taken from my tool bags over the last 40 years, and finally gave up on buying a new one.

The other would be if I find a great pattern for work. Knowing that I will eventually wear out a work knife that I use for all kinds of nasty tasks that I don't want to use my traditional to do, I buy one of these modern, screwed together pieces. I found an excellent Kershaw pattern that was on closeout (it was rumored to be too expensive to produce and didn't sell well) at about 1/2 price. Loved it. Bought two more.

Raised by Depression Era parents, I have more knives in my drawer than my father and his grandfather ever owned, even combined. Makes me feel like I have a few too many sometimes as it is.
