Do you care how your knife looks?

I'm not into pocket jewerly. When I make a knife I make a pure user with little in the way of frills or embellishment that is minimalistic and utilitarian in design. Much like the one in my signiture line I made for myself. I like a bead blasted or flat finish as opposed to a high chrome or mirror finish. Finger prints on the blade are not something I much care for because it always makes me want to wipe it off. If the knife is too pretty I won't use the darn thing. It has to look like a user for me or I won't use it much if at all. Kind of like my old 55 International Harvester pick up that I restored. I did everything but the body and paint. If I doll that up I'll never use it anymore or want to park it anywhere and be too concerned over it regarding dings, and scratches and whatever which I just don't want to mess with. Its a personal thing but its how I prefer my own equipment.

The question is do I care how my knives look?

Some knives I don't really care how they look but my EDC which is a William Henry T09 Kestrel is an entirely different matter.

That one is stored in its pouch when it is in my pocket.

I like to carry a knife that looks good, but my idea of a good looking knife might be different than what others regard as good looking.

For a knife that looks sexy, and yet tough and purposeful, I suggest the Bob Dozier Model 6.

Great choice. One of my favorites.

I think we care without really noticing knowing it. "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder", as we all know. I have sold knives that I realized I really didn't like the way they looked anymore and I have also bought knives that I initially didn't like their looks. Things change.

One thing for sure, I don't give a rat's ass what anyone else thinks. If I thinks it's a nice looking knife, then it's a nice looking knife. But I apply that philosophy to about everything. I'm the one living my life. We each create our own world from the projection of our perception. It's all just in our minds so nothing to get too hung up about anyway. Bottom line, its your dream you are living so make it the way you want it.

Regards

Yes I care how they look like. But they also need to peform outstanding.

do you care how your women look?

of course i care how my knives look. but only as far as design goes.
if it scratches, it scratches. thats where the stories come from, when you look back at the end of the day

My expensive knives see little use---my cheap ugly little red headed step children knives see uses and abuses of day to day life.

I care how my knives look. I would never buy a knife if I do not like design and choice of materials. When I use them, they will get some scratches, I do not care, but I clean them after use. By the way talking about Spydercos, IMHO most of them are beautiful. I love Dodo's look. My favorites are Persian, Caly3, Kopa and Adventura. Of cause all Spydercos.

Same here.... well, I have only made one knife, not knives. I think art knives look fantastic. I have nothing against them and like to drool over them just as I like to drool over nice paintings.

But I prefer the look of a simple, minimalistic knife.

Sure, in pics a plain workhorse may not look as nice as a fancy art knife, but when holding both in my hands it is the plain, "form following function" knife that captures my attention. Having a real working tool in your hand is impressive.

When I close my eyes at night, I see plain Sebenzas and Micarta-scaled full tang Doziers, not embellished folders with filework and damascus, or Mastersmith bowies.

But I do care how my knives look. I am generally not interested in a knife if the overall design doesn't look nice. It is just that I prefer simple and clean to busy and fancy.

And like I said before, I think sratches and marks can make a knife look better. Not just because it means it is a user, but actually looks better from a purely cosmetic point of view. I think perfectly new knives look sterile.

Spyderco knives are like fat women: fun to play with, but you don't want to let your friends see you with them.

Well... I like Spyderco knives. A lot actually.
The Native is my fav EDC because I like the shape of the blade so much.

And anyways, who doesn't like a woman with a lil junk in her trunk?!? :D
