I always carry a locking-one-hander knife (currently the Spyderco Vesuvius) but I also always carry either a Swiss Army Knife or Leatherman Micra--I just can't seem to do without the screwdrivers and scissors.

Good luck,
Allen.

Sorry folks but one person always comes along and spoils the thread - today it's good ole Dave from the UK.

What is a slipjoint?

I have seen the pictures so I am guessing they are 'Penknives' or 'Lock Knives'? That's what we call 'em on this side of the pond.

I've always carried a slipjoint of some sort. Mostly a SAK Tinker as well as rotating between buck, bulldog, case, camillus, and shrade. Slipjoints just feel better for every day use. I carry a onehander as well(CUDA EDC or CUDA MAXX) but slipjoints will always be my favs.

Dave a sliplock is as found in a penknife or Swiss Army Knife, SAK. They do not lock the blade, the bolster does that. The blade can fold closed having ridden the spring. A lock blade actually locks the blade open and the mechanical lock needs to be physically unlocked. Read some more on the forum and all will become clear.

The law in the UK allows slip locks/penknives, under 3 inch blade, to be carried anywhere without need for "good reason". A lockblade of any length is considered a fixed blade and though you can have one anywhere you do need good reason which would have to stand up to the scrutiny of three magistrates/judges. (A pair of scissors in a public place come under the same criteria). Seft defence is a no no; culteral dress is fine; for the work place but having a pub lunch, depends if its a Stanley or black combat knife.)

I usually carry a Camillus Yello-Jaket 2 blade muskrat along with whatever the daily carry happens to be.

Yep, my EDC is a Henckels trapper with red jigged bone slabs and carbon steel blade.
Great office knife!

I probably carry a slipjoint 30%-50% of the time, when I'm not using a tac folder. My two rotation carries are a Queen D2 Cattle King stockman in Cocobolo, and a Schatt & Morgan Swaybelly trapper in red worm-groove bone. I can't imagine two better pocket knives.

I've been carrying either a Case baby butterbean or a Bulldog Viking Whittler with a wharncliffe main blade...

I rotate my EDC between my CRK small classic desert ironwood inlay, a spyderco mouse, or a Schatt & Morgan jigged white bone whittler...
