Do you Carry by Destination?

Just wondering, I live right on the border of two very different counties, San Bernardino (Knife length is not an issue) and Los Angeles (different story)...so most days if I know I am going into L.A. I carry a smaller knife with a blade under 3".

Does anyone else base their daily carry on the destination of where they will be that day?

yeah while at work I carry my izula and rc 3, when we go out on the weekends it's the izula and a bulldog trapper.....We usually go out of state on the weekends so I keep it discrete....

I work two jobs, one in the AM that is not a place to carry a knife for the most part, so there I bring my leatherman and usually an opinel, sodbuster, or slipjoint of some kind.

The PM job is one where I wouldn't be caught without a knife (rowing coach, maintenance, boatman, log wrangler)
There its usually my a100 in pocket, tasman salt on my pfd, and leatherman in my back pocket. If theres very heavy work the a100 is usually kicked by my rc3 or izula. Have gotten my self dragged by a rope under water before, once that happens you make darn sure you have something sharp with you.

All legal, but definitely a difference between AM and PM, though I did carry my a100 at the other job for a while with a low rider clip, but its just overkill for cutting zipties. :D

While one job is in Hartford its on the river so what I carry doesn't matter for the most part, but after work we tend to head into the bar downtown and I ditch all but a slippie, most of the time.

I am fortunate to live in a Free State where I can carry whatever I want, where ever I want. Sometimes it is good to be reminded that others are not so fortunate.

i sometimes go smaller than my cold steel voyager tanto if i want to go lighter, i use a minigrip and a small keltec instead of my CS and G19. if i cant carry a firearm, i usually add a secondary blade. normally have a large heavy fixed blade in the truck if im travelling in my bag.

I now know the feeling I lived in Nevada (had a CCW, personal security business and cash in my pocket, daily) for most of my life before moving to Southern California, it's like the difference between being a subject and a citizen...I'm not taking this down a political road, just identifying with your post. ;)

I don't carry based on destination but rather what I perceive to be "anticipated use in a given environment".

Around the homestead or just out and about, I normally carry my usual combo of my trusted SAK Pioneer along with another knife. Recently this has been a Hen & Rooster medium stockman in stag. These knives will reasonably handle all my cutting chores in my normal environment.

On my day hike yesterday, I added my old Buck 110 carried in its belt pouch. If camping or on a longer hike I may carry my old and trusted Randall Model 1 instead of the 110.

If I'm going fishing, planning to be on a boat or around water, I carry only knives capable of being tethered on a lanyard, usually a Pioneer, my old Spyderco Endura, or the Randall.

Yeah I adjust the knives I carry due according to where I'm going to be in order to stay with in the law, which here in New Mexico, even in college is not that big of an issue. Or if I'm camping I'll had some more sharp pointy things so I am nice and prepared.

If I'm going to work, I need to have a locking knife. If I'm on campus, I have to have something that either won't be noticed or won't cause alarm. If I'm walking around, I like to have something that the authorities won't object to. If I plan on going into government buildings, I bring something I can stick on a keychain or nothing at all (depending on the government building). So, even within the same city, lots of reasons to change what I carry.

I do the same thing. I live in So Cal and I walk every morning before dawn. My home is close to the foothills. As a result, I encounter some interesting fauna from time to time . . . most of which doesn't want to have anything to do with me. But I carry pepper spray and a large Cold Steel Voyager in my pocket just to be on the safe side.

At the office, I carry my William Henry EDC E6-4. I had WH convert the pocket clip to a lanyard so I can carry it deep in my pocket and not draw any attention to it. I've also got a Scrap Yard Scrapper 6 and a multitool in my vehicle BOB, so I don't feel underequipped should the SHTF while I'm at work.

After work and on the weekends, I carry an A.G. Russell Folding Hunter lockback in 154CM.

Actually just came back from NYC, where my daily carry changed somewhat. I carried a UKPK FRN in the pocket, not clipped. My usual SAK in the other, I burried my Becker Necker at the bottom of the CCW pocket on my Maxped Versipack so that I had a more robust option for emergencies. I backed all of that up with my Charge Multi Tool, in its pouch in a side pocket. Basically I didn't carry on my person any locking or flickable knives. Still had pleny of sharps though.

Hi Zombie Zeke -

Yes - in some cases.

I will only take my sog flash 1 into Chicago with me, since Chicago has a 2.5" rule.

Otherwise, I carry based on what I feel like taking that day.

best regards -

I carry primarily for the journey. Secondarily, my destination affects where on my person I carry, not what I carry. I learned this about 15 years ago when I was in Manhattan. A police officer noticed my shiny BM pocket clip attached to my front pocket and advised me to clip it to my jacket's inside pocket, otherwise I could expect trouble from other "not-so-understanding" officers.

Zombie, born and raised in socal til 4 yrs ago.. IE baby!! LOL, I'll place your location around fontana or thereabouts, iirc cucamonga is la county so we won't go there..

anyhow, I don't worry so much about a particular county but rather where I'm going and what I intend to do when I get there.. example, if I'm going to church I'll color coordinate my delica's with clothing:rolleyes: or just carry a slippy.. otherwise I carry several blades, multi tools etc all the time..2 fixed but nothing over 4", don't make me change out my system and start wearing my esee4:eek:

I carry a Sig P220 and my CRKT Hissatsu folder or Benchmade 710 d2 wherever I go, no need for 2 knives. I think Im set for whatever comes my way. I shoot often, draw fast and double tap and Im as sharp as my knife.

being that Australia has some insane nanny-state laws on knives, with hideous penalties attached, it pays to be aware of the laws and not deliberatly flout them where possible.

for example, i keep a leatherman Wave and a Fallkniven WM1-3G in my camera bag and can easily explain them away as "essential photographic equipment and tools of trade" if some prodnose gets uppity.

i doubt i could get away with a Fallkniven S1 in the same manner in an urban area.

definitely depends on location & environment. [friendly or not ] on the ranch larger slippies like the 4.5 in. pioneer or the hefty muskrat. carpet cleaning downtown at nite i carry a b.m.710 or endura.confrotations are rare but after 10 years of night work in l.a. & dallas i've learned to expect anything.

No Fontucky boy here, I am up by Wrightwood, in the San Gabriel Mtns, about 7 miles as the crow flies...;)

I always feel outclassed by the gang-bangers down the hill, just because of the numbers of them, maybe I'll look into the CCW permitting process.

Sure do! When I'm going to work I usually try to keep to a 3"-3.25" blade length (hence the Hest folder pre-order). I actually had a supervisor come up to me when I first started working there and say people were saying that I was carrying a very large knife and ask to see it. It was my 2000 Commander, his eyes got huge when I gave it to him. I then had to reassure him it was within the TN legal limit of 4". After that I've tried to downsize while I'm there. While there is no limit stated in the work handbook I figure I don't need to chance it. When outside of work I try to make the most of TN law and keep a 3.75"-4" folder on me.

I do. Indiana is pretty free. My employer has a weapons policy that came out of the Homeland Security mandate that security guards in our business have to be deputized and carry firearms...we're a "soft target" I guess.

So with that policy came language about knives...which frankly is surprisingly good all things considered...3" blade or less.

So I carry a Delica at work and swap out for an Endura after. As such, I find the policy not particularly odious as they have no other specifications. Considering the total "zero tolerance" policy of so many employers, I am not beefing. I sort of rotate and Izula and a Roselli Grandfather in my backpack and those are under 3" too.

I have an SAK Tinker in pocket that goes everywhere.

PS: Nobody cares about this policy as far as I know. Clip knives are very common here and nobody cares. I doubt they are all under 3" but mine is.
