Do you carry knives other than Buck?

I've seen the 172. It's a nice knife, but the design doesn't appeal to me all that much. I may pick myself up a cutback. It's also a Tom Mayo knife, but this one has caught my eye.

I would go wit the "Hilo" 179 over the Cutback. Closer in size to the 110 plus I like Hilo even if it rains like, well, rains like Hilo. But that's me.

Why don't the TNTs have the Mayo logo on the clip???? Like I've said, it's the little things that count.

Aloha n dah "Kine"...

I agree on the 179 over th 174 Goose. They didn't have the 179 when I got caught out in west Texas and setteled for the 174, but I like it. Will scrounge out a 179 one of these days. I think it would fit my hand better. I love the frame locks.

Logo on the clip? hummm... woldn't it just get worn off if it was a user? I have been pretty rough on clip knives I have carried.

U R probably right...presume it's painted on like the logo on the 172 blade and not stamped.

The logo on the 172 blade is not painted, it is etched.

I have a few non-Bucks. Here is a Spyderco Delica 4 that came in the mail yesterday. (The flip side of the Delica is stamped SEKI-CITY/JAPAN, and the clip has the spyder logo stamp.)

Ya know, I took it to the glass and you are right! Now I gotta take all those bad things I said about it back.
Thanks...

Buck is my favorite, but... truth be told, I rarely carry a Buck.

If I do carry a Buck, it's usually a 501 or 503. When I was in high school, it was still ok to carry knives (I graduated in '99), so back then I had a 110 on my belt every day. But I really don't like belt sheaths for folders anymore, so I rarely carry a 110 (hell, I probably haven't had a 110 on me in a few years).

My main EDC for the past several months has been a Benchmade 710 in 154cm.

Here it is with my 55...

I have more Buck knives than any other brand and I dearly love all of the ones that I own. After saying this, I almost never carry a Buck unless I want to take one to work to look at and play with. My every day carrying knives are a BM Skirmish and an Emerson Commander. I just feel they are much better knives than the Bucks because they get sharper and stay sharper much longer. However I have a nostalgic spot for the Bucks. They were the first good knives that I ever owned and I still have every one that I ever bought. They are the prettiest of knives and I do enjoy owning them. However, if I have a bunch of cardboard to cut up at work or need to open some boxes, I will turn to my Skirmish or Commander and feel that it will do the job and still not need to be sharpened for days or weeks.

Microtech, SOG, or Benchmade on a regular basis. Buck, Schrade, every now & then.

I own knives other than Buck but besides a SAK, almost never carry them. I always have my 55 or 709 in my right front pocket, a Rush clipped to my pocket and if I'm working I have an original Bucklite on my belt if I don't have my gunbelt on. If I have my gunbelt on it's a 110 instead of the Bucklite. I always carry a SAK Tinker in my left front pocket. Someday maybe I'll get one of the old SwissBucks but for no real reason I'm partial to Victorinox and those were Wenger if I recall correctly.

A Buck 110 and a Victorinox on the belt, and a Schrade + folder in the pocket. :D

Spice it up a bit, Buck is my favorite, but I carry other brands. Mostly traditonal style knives. My top three favorites are:

Buck made in America, mostly.

Boker made in Germany, mostly.

Nieto made in Spain.

Great knives stir your soul and these companies make a lot of them.

As much as I love my Buck knives (especially the titanium 560), I do carry a Spyderco folder most of the time.
Lately the Pacific Salt has been in my pocket.

Just curious; what about the Spyderco do you prefer? I don't know about the function, but I don't particularly like their looks at all with the big bulge in the blade just to make a bigger thumb hole.

I'm a steel snob. Spyderco uses top steels in their knives whether it's S30V or VG10. Now I know that Buck has a great heat treat and gets the most out of the steel they use, but I'm a cutlery enthusiast. If I can get a knife with better steel I'll take it. That's why I got the Cabela's Alaskan Guide 110 when I could have just gone to Walmart to get a regular 110 for 1/2 the price.

That makes sense. Thanks for the insight. Now if they could simply offer a model without that obnoxious blade bulge I might just go for one!

Out of the 50 plus knives I own, only one is NOT a Buck, I've been the whole route, BM's,William Henry's, Spydies, MT's and a ton of customs, I started with a 110 back in the 60's, but Buck pulled me back and here I'll stay

Jake,
I have to agree. My experience with the 110 goes back to the early 70's and I still prefer to carry it in a sheath when protocal allows it. Now that Buck has come out with several clip-based knives I now have several options for carrying a Buck to work. (I have a 174 in my pocket right now) There are several that I cycle through including the May TNT, the Sirus with ATS 34, and the 174. There may be a few more in the future. I think that Kamagong makes a good point when it comes to good steel and hopefully Buck will offer some of the clip-based knives in higher grade steels beyond ATS 34/154CM.
