  • Today marks the 24th anniversary of 9/11. I pray that this nation does not forget the loss of lives from this horrible event. Yesterday conservative commentator Charlie Kirk was murdered, and I worry about what is to come. Please love one another and your family in these trying times - Spark

Do you consider Spyderco Knives to be "Hard Use"

I think of the term "hard use" as asking a knife to perform well and long within the design limitations of that knife. Hard use is set by excellent design, high-quality materials and superb construction. Spydercos excel at hard use.

Knives that stand up to abuse are defined partly by the above considerations, but also by heavy geometry. Make a knife thick enough, obtuse enough and it will hand virtually any abuse. But you lose performance. A lot of performance. Spydercos are not designed or manufactured for abuse. They are made for high performance cutting and will stand up to hard use within the designed intent of the knife.

The Spyderco Southard with thick blade spine is my hard use knife, comparable to my ZT 0550, 0560.

No folder is truly made for hard use...., knives ( in general) should not be used for prying. That being said, Spyderco did produce some decent choppers.....

Define hard use and how that applies to something other that fantasy. Spyderco makes tools that can withstand hard cutting, but not tools that are designed for something other than that. After all, they're a knife company, not a prybar company...
