Do you ever buy decent cheaper knives just to expand your collection?

I never purposely set out to have a collection. It just seems to happen as I buy things I need and like. :)

I would never buy something just to have it for collection purposes; although I understand those who do and how enjoyable it can be. If I find I have hung on to something for a long time and have not used it, I sell it.

I do buy cheap knives. Not to expands my collection though. Because I like them. For example the spyderco tenacious. A great knife for thirty dollars and IMO! But regardless me how much a knife is worth Mr how great it functions, if its not for me it's not on my list.

Im thinking of getting a Svord Peasant and a Opinel Folder.
Should i just wait and save for better quality more expensive? i always hear people wishing they got 1 great knife instead of buying 20 ok/cheap knives.
Yes, I have, and prob will again :) I bought Mercator, Opinel, EKA, and other lower priced brands specifically to 'expand' my collection. All these knives have a history and good word of mouth. Same reason I buy more expensive ones;)

I was once in a big knife store and decided to buy a knife just because I had the itch for a new one. They didn't have much quality stuff (Emersons, Striders, etc) and what they had was at retail. I ended up buying a cool Kershaw for about $35. It is US made and is actually a pretty cool knife. I still carry it sometimes.

I would not buy a cheap knife either now as well as most others on here a inexpensive desent knife yes for a few reasons for instance if i like a blade design or handle design I will buy it for a rough sketch for a knife design I inteend to make. I did this with a crkt OIF not a cheap piece of crap but not the best either. I bout it for the handle design gave the knife to a friend for a trade cant think of what it was but I got a great rough idea for a skining knife handle expenive for a sketch but it was the perfect handle if I have ever seen one. My friend loves the knife I didnt like it well it wasn't made where I wanted it to be IE USA Japan or Germany I am very picky where they are made call me crazy but I still dont want to support a comunist country if I can help it just my thoughts

Depends how you define cheap. There are the cheap knives that you can buy at your local hardware store, and there are "cheap" knives like the Spyderco Tenacious that are a great bang for the buck and still offer the company's great fit and finish. I'd take take the 2nd one if the knife offers what I'm looking for.

I did that at times 30 years ago, but there comes a point when you need to reverse that trend and sell several cheaper knives to fund One better knife.

If you don't you'll wind up with 1000 knives by age 49, instead of around 125.

It depends. Even if its a cheap blade, if it genuinely piques my interest, I will get it. I have some expensive knives and some cheap. It all depends on what you like i guess.
