Do you ever feel nervous when you let someone else use your knife?

knife enthusiasts, you must admit, are an uncommon lot. the vast majority of people are like that childhood friend of mine. to him, a knife is a knife; just a tool that you use hard till it's dull and broken, and then thrown away and replaced. any knife costing more than $10 is a folly. and telling them how expensive and delicate the blade is, and all other merits, will just mystify them and confirm that knife people are strange.

no, i don't try to educate them. if someone shows a real interest, then i could engage them as peers.

I've got a cheap utility knife to hand to people if they need a knife that way if they break the blade I can just stick another one in and if they manage somehow to break the whole knife then I go spend 1.50 to buy another one. I don't lend out my Tenacious or my Leatherman Core if you ain't carrying a knife you probably shouldn't be useing one.

Same here, that's why my Leatherman Blast blade looks like hell and my nice knives look pocket worn.

I have the model just below yours, the Fuse

The thing about leatherman blades they're way easier to replace than say an emerson or a sebenza blade.
At leatherman conventions (for example) they replace and/or sharpen your blade for you no probs:cool:

Mine is still newish, (only a year or so old) so haven't gone to any of these yet, but a good friend of mine went to one of these events and they replaced his plier head and blade free.

One irritating example of blade lending my part:
A few years ago I borrowed my Cold steel voyager to a friend to cut an orrange.
Not very blade abusive but the prick didn't even do me the curtosy of washing the knife properly.
The orange juice got sticky and grimy on the pivot and the knife never flicked open as smooth again no matter what I tried.
Unfortunatly due to the folder being riveted and not screwed together I couldn't open it to clean (unless I miised something)

I don't lend my knives out. Being a nice guy has nothing to do with it, most people I run into that need something cut have no idea how to open, or unlock the knives I have in my pocket. You want to be a nice guy, offer to cut what they need for them.

what he said...
