Do you ever get compliments on your knives?

Was curious what the community’s experience is.. I’ve only had one person compliment one of my traditional knives, and it was my grandmother of all people. It was a Northwoods Michigan Jack in orange camel bone. She thought the handles were pretty. She called it a “case knife”, because in her vernacular, all pocket knives are case knives 😅

Very rarely. I avoid pulling out my knives in public, so few people ever see them. But on the few occassions someone does, they sometimes ask if they can see the knife and then they usually compliment on it. If they're just staring at you in shock, even if it's just a peanut, you can forget about any nice comments though ... 😅

Many GECs got much compliments from persons who usually don't care of knives. Especially those to which I lended an ancient to get his meat cut.
Bone handled Case Sodbusters also attract the eyes when I use one.

That “case knife” thing is quite common.

The only time people give me compliments is when I'm with "knife" people, like at a show.

My contractor complimented me on my knife display.
He said, "You have a nice collection of Swiss Army knives."
There wasn't a single SAK in the display, they were all Case and GEC knives.

I did the last time I handed my knife to somebody to cut something 😱 Yeah I know and normally I wouldn't do that, but I trust my uncle and he was just opening a bag of chicken feed real quick.

I handed him this GEC H20 and his reaction was " Boy , this sucker is sharp ! "

That's more of a compliment on my sharpening skills than the knife itself, but that's all I got aside from when I show various knives to my buddy.

I helped a lady cut a 'flyer' off of a pole during a triathlon event once. She was looking for 'somebody' that could help her out but having no luck. So, I walked up with my Buck 301 and removed it for her and she said, "Finally, good to see a guy with a pocket knife!"

Not a specific compliment on a specific knife but a compliment never-the-less!

NEVER!!!!! It kills me that I have so many guys (and a couple gals) in my sphere of influence that rely on knives day in and day out and yet not ONE of them ever has anything to say when I offer them one of my traditionals or personally forged fixed blades. Kills me. They all carry big flippers and own crazy fixed blades and neither are ever half as sharp as the Peanut I carry daily.

Ive made knives for some of them and barely got a thanks tho I will backtrack on my previous statement and say that maybe 3 of the folks ive made for will send me pics of them in action so I take that as a compliment. My wife glazes over when I talk about the next kitchen knife I want to make tho I will say she uses my little utility knife daily by choice rather than request so theres that. I do it for me and I compliment my knives constantly so its all good!

OH...and I get compliments on here whenever I post and love to return the favor!

I always get such a kick out of “wow that’s sharp” or “wow that seems like a nice knife”. I had a case medium stockman while living in Nepal and it was absolutely shocking to have two blades on a knife, and a knife not meant for chopping.

Rarely if it isn't my kids.

At my son's cub scouts, one of the other dads might say something. They tend to be a modern-knife bunch, but there are a couple guys with Buck 112’s and I know of at least one with an Imperial camp knife. Definitely a few SAKs in the group.

One time I was sharpening a pencil in Sunday school with my peanut, and one of the other teachers said, "Nice!"

My kids, on the other hand, are pretty curious about whatever I have.
