Do you ever get compliments on your knives?

Most of you either hang out with wrong people, or aren't letting your knives get enough light and air! I live in an urban area, and get plenty of compliments and requests to see/use a blade. In fairness, it is most often a fixed blade which can be seen either on my belt or sticking up from a pocket sheath.
I'm also pretty interested in any knife I see getting carried and used, and most always ask to see/fondle the blades of others. By the fire pit the other night, my friend showed me her 30 year old mini case stockman that she's carried in her purse for her entire adult life. It's quite worn, I offered to sharpen it for her. I complimented it, as any good and practical tool deserves.
If all else fails, or I am in solitude, I will compliment my own knives. Told Mrs. Goldenrod 92 that she looked exceptionally fine this morn, and offered to take her out for the day :)

Yes, mostly online in these forums. But I have had some people who don’t have much to do with pocket knives ask to borrow mine and they have gave nice compliments on them!

Only on the ones I post in the various threads here.

No one pays the SAK's and/or Leatherman (or when applicable, the Buck 110 or 7OT, or two blade slipjoint folding hunter) on my belt any attention. They also ignore the little Toferner neck knife I have on.
If/when I take a knife out of my pocket, unclip a SAK or Scout Knife from my belt, or un-sheath the Toferner to use at meal time, no one pays it any notice. :)

When I show the one of two knife guys that work at ace, they compliment. They are mostly into modern stuff I think.

I was at the shotgun shoot a few weeks back and it was between shoots and I was whittling a spoon. A kid about 14 was watching intently and as I carved a sliver out of the bowl he said “that’s a sharp knife”. About my case 75 With stainless blade. I thought, boy you ought to see my old timer!

I don't normally i did once. When we moved where we are last year. I cleaned up the front garden the old bloke across the road gave me a hand. A couple days later, we came home here he is up a ladder with electric hedge trimmer trumming the tree.
He told me he would get his saw as he missed a couple of branches. They weren't big so I took out my victorinox harvester & cut them off. His comment was "that's handy I like that".
Later on we were talking to him & his wife & he was telling his wife how he liked my pocket knife. My wife pipes and says he has plenty he will give you 1😮😮
I gave him my victorinox tinker a couple days later. He opened it straight away trimmed a hose with " that's sharp".

Tbh I find the notion of being ‘complimented on my knives’ a bit weird.

Commenting on a knife being nice, yes.

Only virtually, here amongst the initiated... I would on principle, never lend anybody a knife, they're sure to mess it up/stab themselves & blame meo_O

In supermarkets I hate buying Broccoli with huge trunk like stumps, waste of money so I trim them down before buying, few years ago I took out a small lockback Moki and decapitated a couple of nice green ones. Woman watching me from the other side of the box, wide-eyed, then she says " Would you mind fixing mine too? Such a great idea"

Only from family and close friends whom I do show my knives to. And of course here! In urban areas people's attitude to knives is that they are deadly weapons of some sort, no matter what. So I prefer to conceal. Yeah, ninja style.

then she says " Would you mind fixing mine too? Such a great idea"
I was expecting something like "Why do you carry a weapon for God's sake!" 🤣🤣

People usually don't care around here. However some, mostly in large urban areas, consider all types of knives as weapons. I once had a co-worker ask me while I was using my Vic Cadet to cut paper and some line for decorations in our office why I was carrying a weapon. On the other hand, in rural areas like my hometown, people still carry large knives regularly and when I bring out a folding knife with a 10 cm (ca. 4 inch) blade, they tell me I have such a nice and small knife.

No, I don't think so. Well except for my dad and my grandpa when he was still around. I've gotten compliments on some modern folders, but I don't think so on my traditionals.

Usually only from my dad. He was a cook in his day, so when I get something new I take it over for inspection. Buy anything with a clip is a “boot knife “

If I let someone use it they usually comment on it being sharp, if I'm using it I don't think folks really get a look at it.
