Do you ever get make fun of?

Yes, I know they are all laughing at me behind my back. But I only listen to the voices in my head. They'll be sorry!

Do I ever get made fun of? The suggestion being because of my level of preparedness - hell, I even get made fun of by people on this forum -tonym comes immediately to mind

Is it a bother? Of course not - that's why they invented phrases such as 'Bite Me'! :D

There is a series of ads on New Zealand television at the moment asking the question "what would happen if a civil defence emergency happens when you are on a bus/at a mall/at work?"

My smart-alek answer to that type of teasing is something like "you know, when civilisation is gone I am going to be the one with skills you need to survive, so you'll have to come to me. And, since money won't be any use, I'll be charging sexual favours..." :-)

i do get picked on a bit in good fun by a lot of co workers, friends, and family but they always reply i hope to god i am with you and your murse if anything ever goes wrong or when the revolution starts l am heading to your house for sure.

i think people just do it when they don't understand and don't really think anything will ever happen and if it does they will just wait for the people to come through and take care of them/supply them with what they need. i mean look how well that worked after katrina.

My friends and close coworkers think I'm Bert Gummer. They always have and always will.
Accept it and have fun with it.
Hey man, IVE GOT TO BE ME!

Find a woman who is on the same page as you. A girl who teases you about something you're passionate about isn't worth keeping around.

I get teased at work any time I mention what I take with me hiking and what I keep in my car (which is not much--just extra stuff I don't want to keep in the hiking pack/BOB all the time), so I don't discuss anything further. They all agree they would want me around in a survival situation (except one lady who hates me, but that's another story) but they think the preparedness idea is silly. My fiancee just rolls her eyes and giggles every now and then when I get something new--she doesn't get it, but she knows it's better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it

Nope. But, at one point I was a pretty regular visitor. Pretty place and I really like Greensboro. I've given thought to moving down there once the Master's is finished.
I live in Kentucky, just about 5 hours north.

I just remember going through NC down to Havelocke and seeing the SHTF that was the Hurricane back in the late 90's and thinking: "Jesus Christ I'd hate to be hung out here without some kind of kit..."
I also remember watching the news on tv of NC having such a terrible time with the ice storms: cars sliding all over the place, traffic backed up for miles, people looking like downed penguins. Sometimes those things start out as rain and end up as hell frozen over -- the change taking place "right damn now". My wife's family from down in Goldsboro (I dig her aunt, she's a neat old gal) was telling me about all the people who were losing their minds.

There's a big difference between paranoid and prepared, you're right. I thought you meant carrying anything like that at anytime where it "isn't needed" was paranoia. I carry an Altoids tin with a few knicknacks in it sometimes.

There will only be one day when I carry a full kit to work (provided I don't start my vacation on the 21st!): 12/22/12. I ain't saying the day will be what folks are afraid of...but that doesn't mean it won't be, either. :D

i live 20 mins east of Greensboro. yeah we get stuff weather wise but to be full out decked all the time is rediculous for this area. Now Fishshooter, i can see carrying more than I would since he lives in the swamp. Greensboro is better now that it used to be. They have totally revamped downtown and its much more cooler and safer. great irish pubs and other bars and restaurants. i am not a city guy so we go there on occasions. stick me out in the middle of nowhere please :D

You really like Greensboro? Man, you need to see a bit more of the state. :)

i can agree with that.. however Gboro has revamped some areas downtown and its a lot more fun now if you like to visit a decent sized city.. but like you, i love the country. the less people the better. This is why I love NC. you have the beach, swamps, rivers, mountains, cities, lots of rural farmers, hunting, fishing, camping. you name it. I rarely leave NC. no reason to.

Yeah sometimes, my older brother asked me recently if I was taking my katana and big knife to go running through the woods, even though I had told him I was going to sweden on a cano survival course.
So I just pointed out to him that that was a very childish remark and if he had ever stopped to think about what and what for I was doing that stuff.
It made him adjust the view on my activities.
One person more that understands. Now on to educate all the others.

People like to say crap but those are the same people that will come to me if they need a knife for something or something out of my FAK or something similar out of my EDC bag. Most of those people are the people that I tell that I forgot my knife or gear to....

I don't consider it getting made fun of because that would then imply that it bothers me which it doesnt. I get enjoyment out of listening to the crazy stuff people say and think. I love the "it can't happen to me" mentality. It's also amazing to me how people think camping is "weird"... Just don't get it.
