Do you ever get tird of making knives?

Mike,I get tired every night then come browse the forums.:D Seriously, I take a break occasionly to get the mind right.A fulltime job and making knives half the night does wear on you.I try to use that time for cleaning my shop or designing new designs or equipment.Dave
 
I was just curious really, how you might deal with burn out, especially if you had a backlog of orders or something along those lines.

I would think it would be better to take a nice vacation, rather than risk incurring quality control problems, but then you run into the problem of getting even more backlogged.

It just seems like an incredible amount of pressure to work under, and I'm actually quite surprised not to see more stressed out knifemakers. I'm not complaining mind you, just pleasantly surprised.
 
once in awhile:) knife making has been a god send in my life, but the thing i try to remenber is that life is like a gem stone. the reason it shines is there are many facets, some times taking a walk on the beach listening to the waves crash is the place to be. spending time with friends and family, helping a stranger always gets me out of my personal stresses. praying for others that have problems way worst than mine. then i am ready to fire up the hardcore grinder, and get hardcore!
 
Somtimes the pressure of getting orders filled takes the enjoyment out of the grinder. As mentioned previously, sometimes you just have to step back and do something else. I like to take my boys out hiking in the mountains when things get tight, or play in the garden or make the wife a new cabinet.

I always know when I need a break. Quality starts to fade and what is unacceptable starts passing as ok. That's when I step back for a bit.
 
I do get tired of doing the same models I've done before,
if it was just for money it would be different
but when I just go for it and
I make something new I love it.
many times a customer just says
make me something,, "that" I like, he
normally gets something more then he expects.;)
