Do you ever get tired of the, "What knife should I get" threads?

I don't get tired of them because the people are usually new members and cannot use the forum search feature. So they have no choice (unless they can do the Google thing and search only this site).

Now if they could search I would get sick of them yes. ;)

........I have the search....:o

I used to get tired of them, but now I enjoy them. The choices usually involve completely different knives, and reflect the ambivalence of the buyer. They usually don't know what features will do to alter the performance of the knife, what they will do with it, or why they want another knife.

Seb or SnG, Leek or Griptillian, it's all about the buyer having disposable income and wanting approval from his peer group. After a decade or two, a couple of hundred knives, and resale of pennies on the dollar, it sinks in that it was a nice expensive hobby, but one or two good knives could have done the same - and said a lot more about them.

I enjoy the threads - almost never read them - because it keeps the industry going, just like AAA rated subprime mortgages kept the housing industry going. And as long as there are young guys, it will keep on going so I can retire and sell them my knives.

I don't mind them. Most are just honest folks asking for opinions.

Get the BM.

There are two ways of asking this question.

1.) Should I get knife A or B? Where A is a twelve inch fixed blade and B is a stockman.

2.) Should I get knife A or B? I'm looking for properties X, Y and Z and both knives seem to have what I'm looking for. But how do the knives compare in terms of quality, out of the box sharpness, fit n' finish, etc.?

The person asking question one just wants a new knife. These are pretty useless questions that generally turn into the tired old Sebenza vs. Strider battle.

Question two is a wonderful question because the poster has done his homework and is looking for real world answers. We can all learn a lot from the answers to question two.

If we didn't get the same topics over and over, there might not be that much to talk about.

Maybe I just have this thing for G-10. I can't put my Caly 3 down :) I think I like it better than my Carbon Fiber one

555 HG or 551 or 556 mini :jerkit:

The Leek is only good for collecting IMO (>_>)

Is the jerkit sign really necessary? :thumbdn:

Btw... what is the sebbie?

The "sebbie" is a short, nickname of the almighty Chris Reeve Sebenza. A very excellent knife that is loved by those who own them and hated by those who don't like the price tag (well, nobody likes the price tag :D)

nobody likes the price tag yes but the sebbie is one hell of a knife!

hopefully i could try one someday. :]

suspenza :D i havent seen that in a hot minute anyone here care to dig it up? its possibly the greatest thing ive seen in my life.
