Do you ever like a Knife so much...............

I've got several Buck 301's. But each is different from the others in some way (year, covers, manufacturing location, etc.). I've never bought en exact duplicate of any knife.

That you buy two of them? I know it may be overkill or even some form of illness. Do some Knives just grab you and don't let go? Now you guys with 50 Charlows may want to chime in,lol

My case in point would be as of late the #47 Viper, I have all of them but went ahead and bought two Natural Stag Vipers. Maybe you might buy one to use and one to put away?

Yeah, SAKs and Schrades...multiples of the ones I really like and never want to be without!

Naw, if I got a duplicate I'd give it away ;)

Not really.
I only own a few knives, so there would be no point in getting a duplicate instead of a new and different one.
Yet, if you feel like buying multiples, you're not alone. And even if you were alone, why should that bother you? :D

I have at least two of every Bullnose that GEC has made, even the SFO's. I am missing a Black Bullnose with the Redneck stamps and pivot, still looking for one of those, but all the other variations I have multiple copies. Since I collect and use Soddies, I tend to pick up two copies when I get a new one. There's a two fold justification in my crazy mind for this affliction. First, I can use one and not fear losing it since I'll still have one for the collection in that event. The second reason is that that gives me one to carry and one to keep mint for the collection. So basically, I buy one with the intent never to use it. Ah....the inner workins of a crazy knife knut:D

I do all the time if the knife is particularly hard to get and/or highly sought after. I always keep one as a user, another in the safe, and I may or may not gift the rest (if I buy more than two). More often than not, I wind up giving my highly collectable duplicates to family, many of whom collect knives as well.

I'm that way with Buck 110's, I try not to buy anymore and I'll come across one I don't have and thats it, another 110. Black Mamba, love your ram's horn GEC, a real beauty. The 110 on the right is ram's horn.

I've got triples of the exact knife. If you also count different covers as the same knife then I've got a lot more than that :)

Sure, I do have exact duplicates of some models I really like. As others have said, 1 to use and one to collect.

As far as same models with different covers or such, absolutely. Though admittedly far from Trand's or Trev's level of obsession :D

Yes I have multiples of several knives. If I have a back up for a discontinued or scarce knife I feel more comfortable using it thus get more enjoyment out of it. Sticking with the rams horn theme I recently acquired a back up for this Queen Cattle King Stockman with a punch SFO for Ontario with Rams Horn scales.

Hmmm, I looked at my spreadsheet. I have 38 knives with doubles (2 of which are not traditional) and 5 knives with triples (not counted in the doubles list). The doubles are pretty much for users and a spare. The triples are the same but 2 spares, or intended to have one modded eventually, or doubles that I found a 3rd for a low price etc. I've have a few doubles that I bought with the intention of changing blades/covers. Those that have been modded are not included in my list. Those that haven't been modded yet are included.

I don't know Jeff, it depends how you count. For example, I consider a #53 Cuban Stockman to be different than the #53 Furtaker or #53 pen. I've got a lot of #48s but they come in a bunch of different configurations too. Including the regular GEC Slimlines of different years, templars, fruitports and hawthorns as a single kind (single blade on #48 frame), that only comes out to 30 and that is the biggest singular like group in my collection. Looks like you got me beat there buddy ;)

Trand, I guess you're right. I know you have a lot more 48s, but with different blade combos they don't really count. If you add my other 53s into the 49 stockmen, then I have 55 total #53s.

Yeah, if you're talking overall, then I've got more #48s. 90 right now and I wouldn't mind adding some 440C #48 jacks to the mix :)

The other two times were with Case CV steel knives so that I could experiment with patinas on one knife and leave the other untouched. Of those two, I still have two Case Small Texas Jacks, Amber Bone CV. I carry one of them relatively often, the other sits in the box. The one I carry is the one I played with various patinas on.

How'd the patina turn out? Is the small jack the square bolster serpentine?

I have two queen canoe knives, and now I have two canal street cannitler knives because I liked the first one I bought so much! However, they both have different covers so I don't have an exact duplicate.
