I find that if I don't get out away from streets and crowds every few days, my attention span goes way down.

I spent quite a bit of time out there in the service. I don't know how you do it. Being a old farm boy from South Dakota, I about went nuts out there. I didn't get much chance to get to know the area but I can sure feel your pain. It is a must now and then to get away from the madness and lay back for a few days. Good luck, hope you find a good spot.

I need to get away often, but don't get to all that much. My get away is driving a few miles to some woods where I take my walks. Some days I'm there for hours and others, I walk a mile and find a place to take a snooze, or heat some water and have a hot cup of beverage. It helps, but it isn't like hiking away from it all and staying several days.

i feel your pain sasha i need to get away to. think im going steelhead fishing this Sat:D:thumbup:

Every one tells me im more wierd then my normal wierd. I go hiking offten and mostly when i do go its for the all day. But i want to go for 2-3 days..Theedge for your survival you need to get out of state. Or you would be hunted down and skined lol... I realy want to hit the hight sierra but that about 5 hour drive one way...
Im trolling the net now looking for some trails close by.. If not that then i just might take the PCH going north on the bike...

I sure planning on getting out and away over my thanksgiving break. First time I'll be home in 3 months and it'll be nice to settle back in my bed...but I need to get away for some quiet time for once.

I grew up in the mountains, spent a lot of time in the woods as a kid/teen. Now i'm stuck in the city, if i dont out at least twice a week into the woods i go freaking mental, especially living around narrow minded, lacking common sense, consumeristic, yuppie scum city folk.

i wish i could get away for a few days too... i live in a pretty small mountain town and i think i get out in the woods fairly often... i would go nuts if i lived in a big city...:o

How about up into the Angles National Forest? We used to spend a lot of long weekends hiking and camping there back in the day. Plenty of good water, (or was, anyway) and lots of elbow room.

I know some good spots in the Los Padres National Forest
It's prolly 2 hrs from LA

It's been really warm in the days here, but cold at night

There is some good spots off of Hiway 33 near Ojai that is a little closer to you

It's funny how when I want to get away I head to LA for a night
Mostly for concerts:cool:

Trent Rock has a good suggestion. Los Padres is similar to the Sierra without having to drive so far. Angeles is good too, but the remnants from the recents fires may still be lingering around there for a while.

I work in the city but then live in the woods. It works out pretty good except for the 1 hr drive to work am and pm

there's some trails in the san gabriels, out towards arrowhead (sorta).

As a kid, i remember going up the san bernadinos many times.

Good luck on getting away. I think we all need this kind of thing. I grew up moving a lot, about 75% country/woods living and the remainder in the city. I now live within a fairly populated area, but on some wooded acreage. It keeps me closer to sane, but since I've had health issues I don't get out as much. I really need some dirt time.

What part of LA are you in? Why don't you try the Big Bear area. This time of year it is not to cold yet and snow has not began to fall. There are miles of trails and from LA it is about 1.5 hrs away. You can get pretty far away from people there if want and still be close to home. It is quieter on the North side of Big Bear lake by Fawnskin, there is less tourist traffic and tons of marked trails and roads. Just a thought for you.
