Do you ever take along a knife specifically to use at table when attending a BBQ or visiting a steakhouse for a meal?

I definitely have for BBQ especially those that are primarily outside and feature those G*d awful plastic utensils. In an indoor setting like a steakhouse the others at the table tend to view it as uncouth if I were to pull out my Kapara to start slicing up a steak.

Reminds me of the Blues Brothers. "Yeah, well how you gonna eat corn with no f***ing teeth!?" Or something like that lol.

All of this changes if I'm going TO a bbq, especially if I've never had their cooking before. I definitely will bring my own knife.

Because:

Ha! Zach is not getting anywhere near my grill! However, I will rally round the brisket with a pocket full of wet-naps!

I'll definitely bring one to a BBQ and often wish I brought one to a restaurant if I didn't. A lot of places serve your steak with a proper steak knife, but enough don't. You're then stuck waiting for a while before you get one or getting one that isn't much better than the butter knife they gave you.

In the city I'm pretty unlikely to whip out a bushcraft or survival knife in a restaurant, also not a great decision to pull out the Opinel No.13, but a good stainless steel folder wouldn't frighten too many people. If you're with a date, who also ordered steak, it would be poor form to only bring out a knife for yourself.

That's a good point. Thankfully some folding steak knives come in pairs:

I can attest that the ESEE 3 makes a better steak knife than the ESEE 4. The thinner blade stock slices better.
