Do you ever...

I have knife moods. Right now I'm carrying an Endura 4.

Sometimes I may want a big spring assisted serrated tactical tanto bladed beast. Other times I may want something small and manual. Or a flipper.

I have enough to change it up and keep me from getting bored.

I'll have to check out the Cabela's when it opens.
I honestly didn't even know one was coming.
Then again, I think Cabela's is extremely overpriced on most things.

That would actually be a really cool idea if I thought I could find someone who wouldn't beat the hell out of my Sebenza. I know a lot of people stop caring for things as much when it's not theirs and they don't have to deal with the issues. Ie.: people who use your knife for stupid things and mess up the edge or tip just because they don't really care.

But hopefully knife nuts would be different. But I've met one that's not, so I'm not sure lol.

And yeah, I'm an addict.
The first step is to admit you have a problem.
I admit I'm an addict, I don't see that as a problem though lol.

Donut: Lunch time is probably around the time I'll be up that way.

Oh I have big tough knives, little tough knives, little slicers, big slicers, hard use, light use, in the middle, all of it's covered.
I just get tired of the same ones and want different ones lol.

If I don't particularly like my knives or if they don't see any use for a while, then I'll tend to get rid of them.

If I really like them and use them all the time? No, I definitely would not sell them unless I didn't have a choice. I buy knives when my financial situation permits, and just go without new ones altogether when I can't afford it.

I completely understand. My "collection" and I use the word lightly is exactly where I want it to be. I have pretty much all the knives I want. But as you said the urge to try something new is always there. Some time ago I sold and traded a few of my favorite knives and its taken years to replace them. I definitely regret parting with them. Some can't be replaced.

My advice. Hold on to the ones you really like. Buy a cheapo here and there for a quick "fix" lol.

I still have the BM AFCK from the 90's a dear friend gave me, carried it on active duty for many years. I love that knife. All these years later I'm so glad I still have it and never had the urge to sell or trade it away. Twenty years from now (I know that's hard to imagine) you'll look at the knives you got now and they will carry the fond memories of a different time.

If you really like them, hold onto them. Save and get new when you can but save the special ones. Even if your a little "used" to them at the moment. years from now you'll be glad you still have them...

Yes, this happens to me all the time. I fight it. My current EDC was my dream knife, but do I think about other knives all the time? Sure. I see something, and I go, "Oh my God... that's beautiful." But I know I shouldn't buy it because it will just happen again soon enough. I consider it an addiction pang, just like nicotine or alcohol. Feel the urge, fight the urge. It helps a lot if I hold my EDC, look at it all over, admire the craftsmanship, feel the beautiful scales, think about why I bought it, think about all its great attributes and how lucky I am to have it and how well it suits my needs. Think about all the time it has spent with me and the years to come. Really take a good, close look at it and realize what a fantastic, perfect-for-me knife it is. Try it, it works.

Goddamn... sounds like I'm talking about marriage!!

What I do is I have a box with some few knives, the users and two or three that I'm in love at the moment, when I get tired I put them apart and bring others to the box so they seem new every 3 months or so.
Keeping budget low and fooling myself a little :D

Good idea. I have a carry case that I "put away" my knives for weeks/months at a time. If I find I've lost interest in something, I hide it from myself for a while.

I've sold off too many knives that I regret losing. I now try to keep everything I receive. That means I have to do extensive research ahead of time, and visit stores or shows to handle anything I may want. I do give myself a "honeymoon" period that I allow a knife to grow on me, or not. If it's not a match, I put it up for trade or sale. Haven't had to do that for a while, though. If it makes it past that time period, I tell myself I will not get rid of it.

I do like the idea of lending it out. It's risky, but you can check out the passaround forum here. Folks often send around their personal knives. Anyone who signs up has to meet certain criteria, and you can put any additional stipulations you want on the deal. You may just want to check it out for your self, as many great knives go around that group, and it's helped me make decisions in the past.

If you can find someone to do a temporary trade, that's cool, as well. I have a friend who I used to do that with, but we see each other so seldom, it's not feasible.

Anyway, don't give or trade away the knives you have and love. You will ALWAYS regret it. I don't have much money for knives, but make due by putting a small portion of every pay-check aside in a savings account, just for knives. It's not much, but it adds up, to the tune of about $500/year. That's about 2 Starbuck's coffees per week, or 2 Value Meals at McD's, or whatever it is that you have to give up. Save up longer for more pricey knives, or splurge quickly on a good deal in the trade forums. I know I'm most excited when I finally have a good amount added up, and I spend time deal searching for just the right item.

Good luck!

Sorry I didn't run into ya, Bladechick. I was in around 11:30 today for about 15 minutes.

I think Im about done with River's Edge. :( They are priced so outrageously high, and aren't competitive at all. They want $55 more for a Sage 2 than Amazon, almost $40 more for a Chaparral, about the only thing they are close in price is on the Benchmade 470.

The other issue is that I don't have anything currently to trade for or towards these knives. So my question is, even though you're completely satisfied with the knives you have and don't want to let them go, do you ever just kinda get sick of having the same thing and really want to try something different?
.

My knife focus has always primarily been focused on outdoor use. This is the only reason why I started to get into ESEE and Moras this last year. But I admit to a knife sweet tooth now and then.

I was there for a little bit, I was able to get a couple of knives sharpened up. Well one sharpened, and the serrations taken out of another.
I actually love it now. The Kershaw Tremor has such a big blade with a ridiculous amount of belly so it's actually thinned out now and I prefer it that way lol.
Got some honing oil for my stones as it was much needed because I just ran out.
And I picked up my Spyderco Kiwi 3.

I traded in a couple of cheapo knives that weren't seeing any love or use(serrated and an old SOG that I didn't want) so that got me what I was wanting.

I have to agree that they're overpriced. $220 for a Sage 2, $160 for a Chaparral, $160 for a Sage 3(not in right now but that's what they ask).

They ask fair prices on some of their Benchmades. They want $108 for a Spear Point Cold Steel Recon 1.

Anyways, the Kiwi helped lol.

I'm glad I'm not alone on this.
