I agree with what Blop said. It's not rocket science. Just leave it in there till it's darkened a bit.
Actually, I don't worry about it. I use carbon steel in the kitchen, including cutting up fruit. That gives them an exceedingly irregular patina at first, which eventually darkens and evens out with continued use. I like the random patterns.
If you're going to the tropics, you might be better off oiling your carbon steel Moras and hiding them away, and picking up stainless Moras for the trip. But a little careful maintenance goes a long way even with carbon steel.
