Do you guys really use your CR knives?

I realize that this may sound a little odd but I bought a MK VI last year, just had to have one. Got the thing loved, the way it looked and felt but I never have had a reason or place to carry it. It just sits there in it little box aging like fine wine I guess.

Earlier this year, I got the bug again with the Sebenze Small Regular. Just had to have it. you guys make it sound so great. It appears to be a very sustantially made knife and I'm sure that it is probably bomb proof but I just don't ever want to carry it. My first impression was that it was too bulky for my EDC. Just my opinion I guess.

My question is this. Do you guys have any knives that you have bought and just don't or haven't ever carried? I don't mean the fancy collector's type knives. I mean knives that were designed for everyday usage. Seems a shame that such robust designs go unsued.

I don't mean to downplay the design or engineering of Mr. Reeve's knives. For what they are intended, I'm sure that they are as good at they come. Just not my cup of tea.

Thanks,

Brian

I've got a small Classic, large regular, and large tanto Sebenza, all of which have gotten a lot of pocket time and use, from the woods to the kitchen. My Mnandi gets carried regularly, too. The Umfaan, not as much, but it does travel in a Mission wallet which I use as a business card case.

My Sable III gets a lot of kitchen use, it's my favorite kitchen knife, bar none. The Al Mar/CRK collaboration and the 12" Sable are collectors, I don't use them.

My other knives are about the same. I have several Darrel Ralph's. I just traded one that I really loved, but ... it sat in a drawer. If they don't work, I will generally consider them for trade. (No, not the CRKs!)

Man, you hurt this knife! Let it work! Here is my short story about MK.VI:

Also I use Sebenza daily. As an example - just finished packing some stuff to send out tomorrow morning... a lot for cutting for my benza & she's really happy :)

I realize that they are built for work/speed. :D I just don't have anything that will get them up to speed for lack of a better phrase. My intention was to have a heavy duty utility knife. Which I'm sure it is. I just don't have any heavy utilities to use it on. Seems like a waste to me. I guess I'm like everyone else in the fact that I try to anticipate the most harsh environment that I possibly can to decide which knife to use or carry. But honestly I just don't have the need for such utilitarianism. <sp> Oh well, i guess it/they will just have to sit in safe until the sky falls.

A small seb is just about right for me to carry, sometimes I clip it to the right front pocket, but the nylon belt pouches works very well.

Lately I've been carrying a large CBB or Redwood Burl, the only thing I do differently is I don't pry with it, and I don't take it places it might get confiscated.

I share the opinion that the more you use it, the more you will like it.

I can understand collecting sebenzas and mnandis but for me - one piece range knives are for nothing else than to use it really hard and often!

My wife got me a sm classic seb for last anniv. I have to admit the sebbie is a drawer queen. So perfect I hate to use it on mundane stuff like letters, boxes, garden crap. Still, I love my little sebbie and open and close often with no particular use intended. On my next safari I will surely take it :D I know that sebenza = work but I am 61 and retired. I do some of the same stuff with my guns, clean em, put em back in the safe. Although not big on the productivity side, there is still satisfaction in having the best.

I have a dozen or so interesting CRK's in my collection (umfaans, older sebenzas, etc.) but I have a small plain sebenza clipped to my pocket for EDC. Great little knife.

Use it, you will appreciate it! Yes, I use my CRK blades. Not a single "collector".

carry a sebenza everyday, usually a large stars and stripes or a unique graphic large classic-i've never felt that they were too bulky.
you just have to break down and start carrying it.

It appears that my situation with the MK VI has been resolved. I had someone offer to buy it. Anyway, looks like it will have a good home with someone who will let it go out and play. Win-Win situation.

I'm carrying & using my large Sebbie nearly everyday. It's all scuffed and scratched, but still perfect!

Edit: what it did today:
- cutting plastic on backup tape boxes
- slicing sandwiches
- opening letters
and from the previous weeks
- cutting computer boxes
- camping chores: cutting rope, food prep, making tent-pegs

Work carry yesterday was the lg Pheasent Tail and today it was the Sm plain.

I plan on using my new Large Classic everyday for anything that comes up! Although I am already having dreams of a Small, Regular...

My Sebby woody made short work of the 'lectricity bill envelope today! Whoosh and it was open! Scary fast!
