Do you hate your knife?

Benchmade mini barrage. One of my first 'nice' knives. Hated the cheap plastic handles, hated the assisted open after awhile. Total waste of an axis lock.

Brous Bionic

I loved the design and blade steel but it felt like a toy. The aluminum scales were slick. The flipper was too sharp. Wasn't smooth at all, even with the bearings. Maybe I just didn't give it enough time? I moved it on after a few weeks. Nice design on paper just not very well executed.

Those knives rust so easily because of the stupid bead blasting that Kershaw does. I have satin finished 8cr from other companies and they don't rust at all even in the humid summers here. Avoid bead blasted knives. They are a cheap way to finish blades and it makes them very rust prone.

Yup. My Spyderco Persistence (8cr13mov) has the same poor edge retention, but it has never spotted at all and actually sharpens easier, the latter probably due to geometry.

The Rat series folders. No I don't hate them with the fury of a thousand suns, but I don't like them nearly as much as I think I "should". I know I should like them, but I just can't. They feel cheap and flimsy to me. They are well built enough for some, but not for me. They are very "meh" to me for some reason. Plain jane, nothing special, feel cheap in the hand.... Even though I know I should like them. I have knives in similar materials and build qualities that I like a lot. I just can't fully dig em!

Kershaw leek and cryo. Leek handle was so slim and slick, when my hands were wet It felt like a buttered eel. Cryo not as bad, but with the deep carry clip and smooth scales, I found myself spending too much time trying to dig it out of my pocket. Put a lanyard on it to make it a little easier to yank out, but I never warmed up to it. G10 version would prolly suit me better. May have to do a GAW with the cryo one of these days.

I've tried twice to like the Benchmade 940. It should be an awesome every-day type knife, but I just don't like how it feels in the hand (especially when using for extended periods).

And slip joint knives that are hard to open.

Some can be a bit tough.

I have owned a number of the SOG Flash series and never liked them. No love-hate there.... mostly dislike. But I do like the Twitch II and XL.

I wanted to like the SOG Vulcan. I like it, but.... too big. The Mini-Vulcan is much more to my liking.

I purchased a Kabar Becker BK-2 as my first Becker due to the reviews on BF. I also purchased the Spydie Endura for the same reasons. First I was awed by the BK-2, but no matter how cool I think it is, it just doesn't fit into my usage anywhere unless I am trying to survive the end of the civiliazation and lawlessness reins. The Endura (have two) was just always a bit large for me and I really didn't care for it in my pocket or even when I opened it after I owned it a while. Went with the Delica and was much more pleased for my needs. It could have been any Spydie versus the Endura or Delica from a size point of view.

Funny thing is almost all custom slippies are difficult to open. Makes springs last longer so you actually pay more for fingernail busters ;)

I once had a bad experience with an assisted kershaw opening in my pocket, so anything that's assisted I have a love/hate relationship with. I see so many designs that look nice except I absolutely, positively hate assisted knives. Like the zt 0770, I love it, but hate it and will never buy it since its assisted.
The ZT 0770 can be deassisted. It has a detent

Spyderco Gayle Bradley. Great steel and blade geometry, comfortable-ish handle, pivot was smooth as glass.

BUT...

The handle shape had no feature to prevent my hand from slipping onto the blade (choil, bump, etc), and the lock was ridiculously hard to operate, even after dremeling for extra clearance. It also sat in my pocket like a 24 oz steak.

Yep. The GB is a beautiful knife. Love the looks, love the steel, the action, etc. BUT it was so hard to disengage the liner lock that I didn't care to carry it.

There's a few companies that I have a love/hate relationship with....

Spyderco - I love the design and ergonomics of many of their knives, but their warranty keeps me from having one as a long term user.

Kershaw - Awesome warranty and customer service. I really don't like most of their knife designs. Many of their knives have a recurve, and no thumb studs, and ho-hum steel. I honestly only like two of their knives. The leek, but it's a bit too small and the blade shape is only good for certain things.....and the Blur, which I plan to pick up a s30v version sooner or later.

Buck - Awesome warranty and customer service. I don't dig their knife designs outside of their traditionals.

Benchmade - They seem to have a decent warranty, but I honestly only like the 710 and Griptillian.

CRK - Great knives. The Sebenza is honestly one of the finest knives someone could carry, if you're anal about fit and finish and quality. But I'm paranoid that I will lose it. So I never carried mine much.

So yeah, knife collecting has became a little stagnate for me lately....

I ended up hating my GEC Whaler for being virtually impossible to actually open.

You should have sent it back to GEC for some spring lightening. I have the sunfish which is a bit smaller but has a strong spring.

My GEC made Bradford single shot trapper had too strong a spring to use. It is a bother, but I know from experience GEC will make it right.

I have that trapper there for lightening right now.

I've bought/sold/traded so many knives in the last year I find myself laughing. Learned a few things along the way, mainly that I don't like knives:

A) Over 3.5 blade length (folders)
B) Assisted Openers
C) Metal Handles
D) S30V

Knives that I hated? Well I really wanted to love the Spyderco Southard. All the hype. CTS-204p blade. Flipper. But I couldn't love it. The square shaped flipper just didn't work for me. The clip dug into my hand. I sold it after owning it only three days. I'm thinking maybe I should have kept it longer, see if it would grow on me like the PM2 did.

Yeah... I should have done that but I ended up giving it away to someone younger and less arthritic :D

Wenger Soldier alox I got in 1995. I love it, and I hate it.

Its sooo cool but I can't seem to get it as white-hot sharp on a stone as much as I would like. It's a childhood knife that I have retained into this, my 32nd year. I should treasure it. Alas, it lives in a drawer with my grandfather's Camillus wwii navy knife. It gets used maybe thrice a year :(
