I guess I have one that just about ruined it all for me. That would benchmade 740 Dejavoo. I got it new around 2006 when I was first working an oil patch. It is in fact a low number first production knife. perfect length blade, full flat grind, spearpoint blade, smooth opening, deep pocket clip, comfortable, well rounded handle, small foot print, efficient design, blade to handle ratio was ideal. It had been my primary daily carry since then, like....probly 95 percent of the time. I actually lost interest in other knives, cause I just had no need or desire for anything else.
A couple years ago, I lost it and started carrying a Buck 110 Lite for a week or two. i found it a couple weeks later, in the couch cushions or some such, but...I had been rattled, so I went and found a Spyderco Native Chief. Then my kids got me a PM2. Then my buddy showed me his David Mary fixed blade that talked him out of and then...
Well...I've got enough knives to carry a different one every week and not carry the same knife twice.
I still carry the Dejavoo alot. it's kinda sitting on the sidelines a bit more now cause it's been used and sharpened so much, I really need to thin the blade down, and I don't wanna lose the original blade markings completely.
When I strap my old .45 Colt onto my hip and slip that thing in my pocket though, it's like shaking hands with two old friends.
I'm at an age and I've lived a life that makes it reasonable to consider how I may wanna depart this world one day. If buried, it makes perfect sense to see what's next with that Dejavoo in my pocket, and that revolver on my hip. It's how I've spent some of my best times in this world. I wouldn't expect to face any danger, but ya' never know when you may find an old tin can to bounce around or the perfect whittling stick.
