Do you have a “buyer’s rejoice” knife?

Basically the opposite of buyer’s remorse. Splendid thread title I know, lol. My Dad gifted me a field watch last week and I liked it so much from day one that it dominated wrist time. Thought I’d apply that idea to knives too.

For me, it’s probably the Cold Steel Recon Tanto. One of the first fixed blades I bought and I still like it as much today as back then. Some purchases don’t click, some take a while to grow on you, but the buyer’s rejoice makes you smile from day one to right this very moment.

Several knives have given me that little kid Christmas morning grin. But there is one that stands out from the rest - one of my three Buck Sprint Ops Pro’s. I first saw this one on vacation in a gift shop, shortly after I started down this road of madness, but wasn’t able to make the grab at the time. I waited and watched, grabbed a few others on the way, then started seeing it go out of stock in the usual online retailers, so I figured it was time to pull the trigger while I still could. I don’t know why, but the knife gave me a bad case of the drools from the moment I saw it in the display case and even worse when I got to handle it. The blacked out blade, the blue and black G10 handle, the absurdly smooth action, basically everything about it just called to me. The fact that it was going out of production just made it’s acquisition that much sweeter. I’ve got a few arguably better and certainly more expensive knives, but this one is at the top of the list of delighted buys.

Spyderco Military 2.

I like the PM2 but probably prefer the Manix 2 for that size. My OG Military doesn't get much use because I'm left-handed - the clip's on the wrong side (bothers me a lot) and the lock/lock cutout are on the wrong side (bothers me a little).

So I ordered a 15V Military 2 to try out a new model and new steel at the same time. Haven't used the steel long enough to say much there, but the knife design is great. Immediately out of the box I much preferred the slimmer handle, 4-position clip, and comp lock of this "PM2XL" to the original Military. Good finish and action on my example, and overall just a really positive first impression that hasn't waned at all. Strongly considering getting another in SPY27 or other stainless steel now.

I guess I have one that just about ruined it all for me. That would benchmade 740 Dejavoo. I got it new around 2006 when I was first working an oil patch. It is in fact a low number first production knife. perfect length blade, full flat grind, spearpoint blade, smooth opening, deep pocket clip, comfortable, well rounded handle, small foot print, efficient design, blade to handle ratio was ideal. It had been my primary daily carry since then, like....probly 95 percent of the time. I actually lost interest in other knives, cause I just had no need or desire for anything else.

A couple years ago, I lost it and started carrying a Buck 110 Lite for a week or two. i found it a couple weeks later, in the couch cushions or some such, but...I had been rattled, so I went and found a Spyderco Native Chief. Then my kids got me a PM2. Then my buddy showed me his David Mary fixed blade that talked him out of and then...
Well...I've got enough knives to carry a different one every week and not carry the same knife twice.

I still carry the Dejavoo alot. it's kinda sitting on the sidelines a bit more now cause it's been used and sharpened so much, I really need to thin the blade down, and I don't wanna lose the original blade markings completely.

When I strap my old .45 Colt onto my hip and slip that thing in my pocket though, it's like shaking hands with two old friends.

I'm at an age and I've lived a life that makes it reasonable to consider how I may wanna depart this world one day. If buried, it makes perfect sense to see what's next with that Dejavoo in my pocket, and that revolver on my hip. It's how I've spent some of my best times in this world. I wouldn't expect to face any danger, but ya' never know when you may find an old tin can to bounce around or the perfect whittling stick.

I had that once.

In 2002 I ordered a particular knife from Knifeshop in Austria. Two days later Martin emailed to say that he did not have the item I ordered and could he replace it with an upgraded version at the same price.

I agreed. This was not the ‘Rejoice’. What he sent me was super nice tho. I still have it.

I still wanted the item I originally ordered and monitored the Web for a year or two after that but my item never came back up for sale anywhere.

Then, in 2015, I randomly checked the Knifeshop site and he had the item back up for sale. I quickly ordered figuring new production had emerged.

The knife arrived a week later. It was not new production. It was the exact item / vintage I had ordered years earlier.

I then Rejoiced.

It’s the lighter colored Camper

My Spyderco PM 2.

Perfection.

I believed the hype. None of you who hyped this knife are liars. (About this knife, anyways 😉)

Aluminum Scales.

CTS BD1N Blade.

Perfect QC.

Total Perfection.

I don't carry and use it.

Simply not my style.

I can't explain why. I hope my Spyderco friends are not offended. Rather, I hope they feel credible and justified.

I've been fortunate to have several knives that I could list here, but there is no way I could list them all. So I'll just post a few that pop in my head that I have photos of handy to share.

It's always a pleasure to receieve a "white box delivery" with another CPK knife in it. They continue to bring joy through the years and are some of my most used knives ...

I would be hard pressed to pick just one. Victorinox Trekker comes to mind - I have three of them.

Recent is a Becker BK10 Crewman [What a knife!].

Perhaps the quiet hero is my common EDC for a very very long time - Kershaw Skyline (KAI 1760, Made in USA). I have used this knife A LOT. Don't think I have ever lubed it, just cleaned it, and sharpened it once. No play at the pivot. Can't remember what I paid for it but it was cheap, and one of the best bang for the buck. Great little knife, still going strong.
