If so, how much is it? After seeing the pics from the new Benchmade catalog, my knife list for the year changed quite a bit, and Spyderco is supposed to have some stuff coming later this year that didn't make the 04 catalog. I was going to try to stay around $700 for the year (hey, that's less than $2 a day!), but the knifemakers and companies refuse to cooperate with my dwindling bank account :(

I am thinking of just not eating this year so I can add more to my knife collection! :)

i'm planning to spend as much as i need to get everything i want and NOT A PENNY MORE.

that's what you call "discipline".

Just enough to buy more supplies and more knives.
Even as a maker I still collect to a limited degree. Thats what the secret drawer in my shop holds:D

My wife wigs out when I spend more than $100 per month on knives, and I've never spent more than that on any one knife. All that changes this year. There are half a dozen knives, at least, which I'll get this year that cost more than that each. Plus the normal accumulation of 'value' knives. I probably won't exceed $1200 by much. From the bottom of my heart, I'll be close to having all I need then. Started this year off right with my Jan. purchase of two Greco's. I still won't be doing any sebbies, though. Not sure if thats good or bad...

I see I'm not alone. This year I have decided on a budget. I think a budget is great because it makes me think a few times before I pull the trigger. So many knives come out, and there is usually such positive buzz aboout new knives on the forums, that I find it easy to waste money on knives that I really don't want. Sticking to a budget will help me avoid waste. This will be a cheap knife year because of other expenses, I plan to spend no more than $600 for the whole year. Somebody remind me those words if you see me posting too much about my new toys.:D

I don't have a budget, although I've got enough knives that I will hopefully only buy knives that I will really use, or at least carry regularly. So far, the only knives I know I will probably get are a Mercwerx Seraphym push dagger, the new Benchmade push dagger, a Chinook II, and one or two of the new Guntings. Ouch, that's already about $700.00.

My budget is the same as every year. Spend as much as possible, and obtain as many knives as I can. Usually, that means selling some of the ones I have, but occasionally the Wife lets me buy one with the family money.

Mine's $2000, but I can only use money obtained from selling other stuff. So, it's really $0 then I guess. "Wife wigging out" would be an understatement.

Yes, I do, a rather firm and very reasonable numeric amount. Zero.

Let that be a lesson to you younger guys. Never let your wife see the invoices for a new Harley.

I really have no set limit on what I "could" spend only how much I "want" to spend. I have bought a few knives in the last few months. I plan on buying that "special knife" this year, something that portrays who I am and what I am about. Whether I find it at the show or have it made, I will have it.

As Tom Petty's first album implied, Damn the Torpedos! Since his debut, I've come to understand that he is both veeeery liberal and anti self defense. Too bad, cause his music really rocks! Anyway, spend what you can afford, get what you want & enjoy! They're lots of grrrrrrrrrrreat knives out there that have good steel and look good that won't break the bank!

Conditional upon the costs of a relocation, my budget for the next months is: "If you want a new knife, sell one before!" :(

No, I am flat broke and can only buy when I sell something else. Damn Kids!

Heading for quality over quantity this year...

4 customs so far(3 enroute, 4th on my belt), 2 more getting paid at month end...

and just did a downsize this week, 4 knives in a trade for 1.

edit: budget? whatever fits in my knife cabinet... 8 drawer locking toolbox.

I think I spent about $600 this last year on knives...which was for 5 balis and a neck knife. This year I hope to get a custom bali...most likely a Marlowe or a 29 and I have been wanting a Protech Godfather...so hopefully I can grab one of those this year too. Oh yeah and a Spyderfly!! And some more BM balis and and and....$600 this year probably isn't going to cut it!!:D ;)

I try to buy 2 or 3 handmades a year. They usually run in the 300-500 range.I only buy emerson pocket knives, and they last about1-2 yrs each.
I can tell you that I could walk into the Blade show here with 25K and not get all the goodies I want.My motto is "if it's only a few hundred more ,get it".
