Do you have a knife hero?

First would have to be Tarzan, many a film growing up as a kid, especially Johnny Weissmuller even if they were props. Then it would have to be Bo Randall, loved the book about his knives. Then, AG Russell, he ran the catalog business and his designs like a person who just enjoyed what he did. Finally, Matt Lesniewski of ML Knives, the first custom knife maker I ever bought from, with the simplicity and classic lines of a workable piece of art.

I'm thinking that guy in the thread this morning worrying about if he can stab his knife into the ground to arrest his descent down steep embankments might be a knife hero in the making. Also that guy last week who wanted to make sure lock failure wouldn't cut off all his fingers.

Definitely my dad, who had a keen eye for knives and who showed me the art of browsing knife catalogs. He was my Blade Forums before Blade Forums was a twinkle in Spark’s eye.

Bill Howard might not be a “hero”, but should get an honorable mention- he’s done a commendable job bringing high quality production slip joints to the masses, for which I’m grateful.

Yes, sir.

Gotta be the man himself, Chris Reeve. Guy is a genius of machining and design. Didn't have to sell his knives with some kind of tactical superhero marketing or military/first responder appeal. He was just a perfectionist in his trade who was passionate in his desire to make the world's best knives and succeeded.

But it seems we can include fictional people too. So I have to give the fictional nod to Kano. An absolute artist with a knife in all his depictions and portrayals over the past thirty years.

Macguyver - used to hang out for that show. So many different , amazing things acheived with the little red knife.
Oh, and Mick Dundee for being stone cold cool

I have to say, my dad.

Lived his whole life with a Case peanut in his pocket and a small machete in the car trunk. It was amazinghowhe got by with 2 inches of sharp blade. If he needed bigger, then us used the small machete. He pounded a saying in my head that it wasn't until much later in life I found to be true;

"It doesn't have to be big, just sharp."

Yeah ! :)

Me too . Probably one of the earliest knife positive role models I ever saw on TV and at the movies . :cool::thumbsup::thumbsup:
Weismuller was way before my time but even watching the films as a kid I liked it because it was Tarzan.

I'm also a huge fan of Burroughs' original story, along with some of what came after. Doing all kinds of things armed only with a knife a lot of the time.

Literary Heros, Tarzan absolutely.
R.E. Howard's Conan a close second.
