This sort of handle material gets left aside now with such material available to us now, we are spoilt for choice for such materials such as the stunning Stag, Bone Jigging, Ebony...it just goes on the pick we have now for our knives, but when I see Staglon or some of the Delrin handle material...some of it is damned good!!..in fact my John Primble half Congress looks as good as a well jigged boned knife ( I think )..so I have a few shots here, and if you have any of your knife that you think has great composite scales in this fashion, then please - you are most welcome to throw them in.
Thanks for looking everyone.
Here is a Camilus Sword Brand Lok-Bak 7, the stamping says Pat. Pend. Im not too sure if they ran with these, there isnt a lot around....

My Half Congress John Primble, I absolutely love this honey of a knife, the long pulls, the Swedges, the quality of the knife, AND the scales...

Those do look good.

There's something very comfortable about Delrin (or Staglon) in the hand, and I'm especially impressed that the older Schrade, Camillus and Remington knives have continued to look so good with it. Even with the so-called 'fake' scale materials, they did 'em right.

The Lok-Bak is really cool, Duncan.

I just received this Uncle Henry as a gift that was included in a trade with Marty (mley). According to Marty, an older gentleman gave him the knife and told him to pass it on to another. I will honor the tradition and pass it on to another when the time is right.

I think this knife is probably staglon but I need to double check and I don't recall where I put it. It's an old Klein branded wrench knife

I am very partial to Case's 70's delrin in their dot series. I thought it was bone, until I still getting edumacated here. LOL.

Also, I can spend quite a spell pondering life's many mysteries while running my fingernail across the saw cut delrin pattern on a Shrade Old Timer.

Nice pics Duncan.

I have one of each. I have an Uncle Henry mini-stockman in staglon, it's a small knife, well under 3" closed. I've also got a mid-70s Ka-Bar swingguard with jigged delrin scales.

You know I love old timers and have some uncle henry's, too. Somehow that didn't make it into my earlier post???

Thats a fine lookin Rem you have there Duncan. :D

Heres a few Schrade Waldens. The UH 885 is also an early SW.

Thanks to you Mike, that Rem is home to stay, thank you so much for that
Man...I like those Schrade Waldens, they look to be in pristine condition!

Although the old slipjoints staglon or derlin looks lovely, as seen in all of the photos above (great knives guys:D), something in those artificial materials turns me off big time. It looks to me as if it does not match the concept of traditional folders, it's irrational, I know, but I can't help that feeling, so no photos from me on this thread :)

Your very welcome Duncan. Shes a great knife and has a good home now.

The SW's are pristine, however they do get a fair amount of pocket time. They are used with care though. If I think I may have a dirty task to take care of, I will select a different knife.
I get a lot of comfort and satisfaction carrying these old SW's, because they remind me of my grandad who passed away 5 years ago, just before his 93rd birthday. He only had a few knives, but they too were SW's, and I have them in a box in the gun safe.
The ones that were his, are not pristine, but are still nice. I have carried them ocassionally, but the thougt of losing them, keeps me from carrying them a lot.
The sentimental value is to high for me.

Its funny, I really like the old SW's with jigged Delrin, but I can't do a Case knife with Delrin with the exception of the yeller knives  Maybe its because I've had so many Case knives with bone scales, that it just doesn't feel right.

Duncan, great photography !
My first BF knife passion was Schrade and i've got a quite a collection of Schrade, Schrade-Walden and Schrade Cut. Co. knives. But i dislike Schrade Staglon, in fact all imitation stag. The Uncle Henry knives for instance are well made and have good steel, buy their Staglon handles make them look cheap and somehow "shoddy". Same for the similar Camillus handled knives.
I much prefer bone over Delrin (sawcut or jigged), but some of the early Schrade (late 1960s-early '80s) jigged Delrin very closely mimics jigged bone as does the Case jigged Delrin.
The older Schrade-Waldens and Cut. Co.s with their bone handles have a more pleasing overall feel and 'presence'. I have often lamented Schrade's switch over to nearly 100% of knives having plastic handles. Decent as they are, my 500 or so Schrade knives would be outstanding if handled in bone and stag.

I really like the Delrin on the Old Timers, that stuff is indestuctable. I have only seen that stuff break one time and it took two shots from a 357 to do it. I had taken my wife out shooting and forgot to bring my stapler to hang the target, so..... I used an Old Timer Trapper to hang the target and told her not to shoot it. She hit it with her first two shots, the second one blew the handles off. At the time Old Timers were all I could afford and I grew to love those old Delrin handled knives. I can afford alot nicer knives but the Old Timers do sneak in from time to time.

Cambell, I have the four bladed brother to you Primble and you are right, it is the nicest Delrin I have ever seen.

I heard or perhaps read that Case intended to move to all Delrin handles in the late 70's ,much as the competition was doing in that time frame. But collectors and buyers of all stripes threw such a fit, that they scrapped the idea.Think of the processing facility needed for a bone processing dept as opposed to delrin. With more new stupid chemical regulations coming in from uncle Sam every year.Thankfully, they toughed it out.Your pics are beautiful Duncan, but truthfully ive always avoided the plastic scales.Schrade Staglon is about as good as it gets though. Here's a couple of slim trappers that were pretty good lookers in delrin.

S-K I'm astounded by that delrin you showed, it's so good it looks BETTER than a lot of bone. Food for thought.

Thanks for the thoughts guys, I was going to head up the thread "Staglon-love it or hate it"...and I respect your opinions either way, that is the great thing about knife collecting, there are so many varieties that we are most definitely spoilt for choice.
Me...I would prefer Stag over the man made composites..but simply...there are knives made with it, and I can either pick them up or leave them, and some of them are just far too nice to leave :(
s-k, as per usual, great photos of some lovely knives..that Camilus half congress is a great looking knife!
