I've had a strop for a good while now! After.I got.it, it took a.minute to get the kinks worked out of my approach. Since that point in time, like 5+years, I haven't had any hair on my arms!! Initially, my legs were fair.game too but have gotten over that.test method! So how many knife knuts don't have.any hair on their arms like me. Thanx!!

I always wondered this myself, considering my hair is very light and at 52 really have no body hair, should have been a competing body builder (no hair to shave). I have to use my legs for hair test and and not much to use. At this point, need to ask my woman to grow out some hair to test on.

I don't even use a strop. Spyderco medium, and my left arm is hairless. I can't really use my left hand for edge checking, so my right arm is covered. Sometimes I check on my leg hair....

I admit I've gone to the paper test for sharpness. Is it a good test? I don't know but I enjoy it. I got tired of patches of no hair on my left arm. My wife joked about patches of no hair on my left arm.

If I could reach my back hair (I have a patch around each shoulder blade, TMI I know ..), I'd shave my back hair more often.

I’ve never understood this need to test a knife by shaving hair.

Shaving sharp is not even right for every knife.

Shaving also opens up a path for infections like MSRA. I don’t even shave my face anymore.

To each his own, have fun.

Thanks for the replies! I've gone thru just about every way to test my edge and the armhair reigns supreme still. I love my billy strop from stropman!! May he rest in peace!IMG_20200306_071732_kindlephoto-480197622.jpg

Some, but not much.
Not on my legs either.

Could be worse, my dad's arms and legs don't even grow hair he can test his blades on.

I've had strops from Stropman and many others, in addition to home-built.
I just have NEVER seen much in the way of results.
My EdgePro does a great job, and I just am happy with that. My blades will float thru newsprint...

I have a little hair left on my arms and on top, a bunch on my (way much ugly) face, (I managed to give up that nasty, vile, disgusting, and expensive, shaving habit in 1974) and messed up deformed legs.
A former girl friend informed me I also have a lot of hair on my sitter. I'll take her word for it, since I (thankfully) can't see (and have less than zero desire to see) my sitter.

I don't shave my legs. Never have. If I needed to de-fur them when/for riding my bicycle 35~40 years ago, I used NARE. :)
Besides, I don't think it would be a good idea (or very nice) if I dropped my drawers to check the sharpness of my knife. One of the staffettes might come in without knocking, and would likely get really ill when she saw my legs uncovered. (Hades and his kin know I do. Why should she be any different?)

If your blade can easily slice thin magazine or phone book paper, then it is more than sharp enough to shave arm hair.

Anyone ever told you about giving too much information? ;)

As for knives and arm hair, I don't do this much and I'm usually satisfied with a less polished edge for day to day use.
