Do you have more modern knives than traditional?

50/50 and if nostalgia is a mental disorder collecting is a disease hehe!

16.1:1 in favor of traditional not counting multi tools. I have more GEC #33 pattern pen knives and whittlers than modern one hand opening knives. The GEC #33 is the traditional knife I recommend if someone wants a small, light, knife that cuts well but won't scare people. Not enough pics in this thread so here are some of my #33s.

Some of these answers have surprised me! The member whose posts convinced me to get my first good traditional has more moderns, what?

Anyway, after doing a mental count, I'm surprised. I have 5 traditionals and 4 moderns at this moment. However, I am getting a modern and giving a traditional from the pif thread, so that will switch the count.

I definitely didn't buy my traditionals out of nostalgia. Two of them are ultra low price with very in proportionate utility. Two were gifts that are so tiny you can always have them, which is nice. The last is actually my highest priced knife, but I can openly use it in the places with the highest concentration of simple minded people, it has a nice thin easy to sharpen blade, and it just looks super cool. Oh and it was made like 40 minutes from my home. So traditionals have their place.

16 to 8 modern. I carry everything from a MT Vector to a Bogi, to a Protech auto, to a bali, to a Coates custom slipjoint to a Primble stockman (thank God for Arizona knife laws or lack there of). The knives I carry on a daily basis depend on what I think I'm going to be doing as I believe best knife for the job. To me, once you have the basic traditional models, there's not enough difference to bother with many more, while with moderns there's always something new or different. I hate using, carrying, riding, driving what everyone else has.

Nuts? We're the 6th largest city in the US and I just went through 9 different lists of the US's most dangerous cities and didn't find Phoenix or any Arizona city listed. Not to say you couldn't find Phoenix on someone's list but if even if you did, its not on very many. In addition to our knife laws, Arizona allows concealed carry without a permit AND I REPEAT, compared to the rest of the top 10 cities with drastically stiffer laws, our crime rate is comparatively low.

Just found a top 100 list of the most dangerous cities in the US and not a single Arizona city listed...

I stand corrected.:D I have some family out there, and whenever I visit, it seems like PD is nowhere to found. I guess it's a thinner force out there than on the East Coast, but thefts are a problem out there right?

I have several traditional knives and several modern folders. That said all my recent purchases have been modern folders.

Modern for me. I just don't like most natural handle materials and I prefer a locking blade if I carry a folder. I do however recognize that the traditional knives excel at slicing, with the thin stock and flat grinds. Thats why I carry a RAT 1 most of the time. Thin blade, easy to sharpen, affordable, sturdy. The workhorse of the modern knife user.

That said, there is always an SAK in my LF pocket and I just got an Opinel No.8 today.
We need some modern folders with carbon steel, I've really grown fond of 1095

He's flat-out-wrong, folks. Phoenix is the Wild-Wild-West, just like Mess-NBC, CNN, and Huff-Po will tell you! It's the heat, it just drives people NUTs. I am armed-to-the-teeth everywhere I go, out of necessity. I'm going to end up with whip-lash for having to constantly look over my shoulder. :(

Did I mention it's HOT? Not enough rain out here, and when it DOES rain, OMG...it's flash-floods everywhere, stranding drivers and ruining homes. Tell you what, I'll trade you 100 of your cockroaches for every scorpion you can take off of our hands. Ever been greeted on your front step by a coiled rattlesnake? NoT FUN! :grumpy:

Seriously, don't buy into the tourism propaganda. Stay the Heck where you ARE! The grass is not greener here, I can tell you. In fact, it's just BROWN DIRT! :barf:

Can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not.

Yes. I still got allot of traditionals though and find they can do as much as moderns.

Do you have more modern knives than traditional?

"Why, No", says the moderator of the Traditional Forum. "I have a fair number of modern knives, but have more traditionals than moderns."
