I just got a new D2 Sifu with finger grooves and the rolling lock always takes 2 tries to disengage.

The 1st time I pull down on the rolling lock button, I can't the lock won't disengage and allow me to fold the knife. I have to pull down again a 2nd time to disengage it.

Is this normal or should I ship it back?

Ya might "work it back and forth" awhile to see if it loosens-up. If not, send it back, as that isn't normal.

My (ATS-34) Sifu closes smoothly on the 1st try, every-time.

PS...You ARE holding the "button" ALL THE WAY to the rear as you close the blade?

Ditto for my D-2 grooved model - if it doesnt work like it should, mail it back...

When you move the button the first time, are you moving it all the way to the rear, away from the blade pivot? If you are, and if the rolling lock doesn't disengage, then I'd send the knife back.

If you're only moving the button partway back 'till it won't move anymore, and then trying the button a second time, the rolling lock is sticking. This should go away with some lube and wear. Just keep practicing your openings -- the mechanism will smooth out.

I have had my sifu work fine for me... but my carnivore (swear by this blade) was REALLY tough out of the tube.. I REALLY worked the knife open close oil, high pressure water and by the time I really "got to know" the blade it was really smooth.... my impression is tha tout of the tube rekats re tough and you really got to break them in and once you do it it's just worth its weight in gold

I mean theres no fun if your kid was a rocket scientist from day 1 right.. but I hope your sifu works out.

I sent it back today because when I pushed the button all the way down and tried to close the blade, it was still locked solid. No movement what so ever.

I heard great things about Sifu on this board before my purchase but now I don't think too highly of Rekat because my defective Sifu should not have been defective to start with. It is a pain in the ass to return a knife. There has been a lot of Rekat quality control issues surfacing on this forum. I hope Rekat takes note of this and impliments some changes.

Rogue_spear,

Did you get it back yet? And if so, is it near perfect?

I'm kind of thinking REKATS might be like Ferraris or something. At least compared to the usual FRNs and Buck 110s, etc. When I ordered mine, it was sight unseen, never handled one, and oh my gosh this thing's EXPENSIVE! (And that was on sale!)

Fortunately, mine seems okay, although there's no way I'd treat it like my Endura or even my CS Gunsite II. Heck, I've scraped grout with my BM Ascent! The only other knife I'm "babying" is my pink Delica because of the clip shifting. I may semi-retire it to keep it nice.

I'm carrying my Sifu, though, just not playing with it quite like I would my other knives.

Hope you get yours working fine! Maybe if you think of it as high strung and temperamental you'll feel better?

Whatever you do, get on REKAT until they fix the problem! Hang in there!

Karl

I have BM, CRKT, CS, Gerber, & MT folders and none of them have had QC problems and none of them had to be sent back. I don't consider my Sifu as an expensive knife. I am holding off on buying Rekats now. I got my Sifu back and it works fine now but I expected it to work correctly out of the box. I don't want to hear excuses about QC. Rekat should fire their QC person and get someone who will get the job done right.

I agree that REKAT has been having some SERIOUS "Quality Control" problems. Maybe they can't afford the $ to hire a "Quality Control Inspector" right now?.

...However, when they get around to solving their "Quality Control" problems, I think that they will have some of the best knives made by ANY company...large or small.

All of the 8 REKAT knives that I own are excellent in both design and materials, but sadly, a few of them have required
"tweaking" to make them "just right".

There have been an unusual amount of problems here lately with REKATS. I've been very lucky with my six REKATs, the only problems have been owner induced.

Bob and Christine have treated me very well and I have no complaints with their knives. I do know from past posts there was a QC problem, I also thought that they fixed the problem. I just hope these recent problems are just flukes.
