Do you just aquire knives?

I have to confess:

I picked up 9 knives and a hand axe today. Really good antique/thrift/second hand shop haul. It's going to take me a week to clean all these up.

I'd like to acquire more....:D

It's nice to rediscover knives in your keeping that you've overlooked or to give away a few to others who need to acquire.

Good thread

Regards, Will

Some I seek to acquire, others just seem to follow me home. I like to think that I provide a good resting place, especially for the old and weary.

I've just flat out got a slip joint problem...lol. I can't
seem to get enough. The hunt is fun as well.

Sometimes I feel like the Pied Piper of knives...they follow me Everywhere!
When I was still working, people would bring them to me and say"here, take these and fix'em up" that usually meant sharpen and clean...they are in rolls, tins, tool boxes, ammo cans, drawers, desk, TV room table, car, shed, garage, even on the screened porch! I have been accumulating them since age 10 or 12... There is no hope for me.........

I had went through a stage when I was buying 3-4 knives per month. Not very expensive ones mind you, but 3-4 just the same. I had modern ones , fixed blades, tacticals, etc. Now I'm at the point where I've gifted some to my nephews, had my dad pick one he wanted from my "collection", and traded a few more. I have one custom knife, a small fixed blade(Meerdink), that I traded 3 knives for. To me it was a good deal as those 3 I would have never used or carried. Now I won't buy anything unless it's a pattern I don't have (wharncliff) for example, or a good flea market find. I enjoy what I have for now and try to use all of them. As for knives given to me. It seems that when you get known as a "knife-guy" people just seem to send them your way.

I'm an accumulator with a collection.

It's just like my hand tools, I have 1/2 a dozen socket sets, countless screwdrivers, more wrenches than I can count...

Actually, I'm more of a knife hoarder than anything else. :)

Sometimes I just can't help myself. I saw a Case Soddie on the Bay the other night, and just had to bid. Turns out it was in new condition, for $10.00. Dunno what I'll do with it, but I got it.

I used to accumulate knives, more than I really needed by a long shot. I guess that's part of our disease. But for the past several years I've been cutting back, and for the past year and three months I've not accumulated a single one. I've got down to just a few that I rotate in daily carry except for my damascus peanut that is always in my pocket. At this stage of my life I don't need a lot of get to get by, and I've discovered the joy of having only a few that I'm very good friends with, that feel so familiar in my hand when I use them. Sometimes I look back on all my knife accumulation years ago, and wonder what the heck I was doing. I'm now a one knife man with a couple of back ups.:D

My wife, yesterday, "There is LITERALLY a knife everywhere you go in this house." She's right.

I thought that's how it's supposed to be.......:D My wife last night saw a picture of my meager collection and was shocked I had "so many" as she put it. I think i have 12. haha.

You're a stronger man than I Carl, I've cut way back and I don't buy very many knives any more, (still 2 or 3 a year) in fact other than the Traditional Forums knife and yardsale/flea market finds for a couple of $, if I want a different knife I just pull one outta the 35 year accumulation.

My wife, yesterday, "There is LITERALLY a knife everywhere you go in this house." She's right.

My wife used to say the same until I got home one day and they were all gone, so I panic and think we were broken into...but my wife just put them all into a box and put it in the closet until my man cave is finished. :p

I used to do this... but after a while, I realized that I have no need for most of them, so I sold the ones I wasn't using. The only knives I kept that aren't used are a Buck 110 and a Vic Pioneer, just because those two knives (well, the Vic Soldier, but what's the difference) are so ubiquitous.

Yes I do. Lately its been 1 slip joint (like a gec 85 cocobolo), and a tactical (ZT, Spyderco, Sebe). Kind of back and forth between the 2 different styles . For a long time it was mostly tactical folders, but GEC makes such nice, interesting slip joints currently. I still got a problem with smaller Bark Rivers, still trying to convince myself that I dont need one of the KSF Bravo pocket models (but its got such a nice sheath with it) since I already have one of each of the other models. I dont know who gave them my email (oh ya that was me). I will probably have to buy one of those next.
Been meaning to re-cycle (trade, sell off, gave a few away already) some of the ones I no longer carry. Maybe can get to that before long, but you never know I may need one of them.

I tell myself that I'm a knife user not a knife collector. But I've bought 3 in the last 2 weeks. I'm sliding down the slippery slope.
