Do you keep the same name on other forums?

Interesting question. Yes, I have the same name on other forums, and am probably registered on about 12 forums.

Call me Excitable boy everywhere but BFC. jmxcpter is a unique leftover from an earlier day on the net, but hard to remember for most folks. Excitable Boy is a tribute to Warren Zevon and makes it easy for most folks. It's kind of an isisde joke with most of my friends as I'm not easily excitable.

The thread about why we chose our names on here got me thinking about this. I'm "Ashes" on three different forums, but I only post on two of them anymore. Same name, same avatar, same sig. I like to be who I am.

Do any of you post on any other web forums under a different name and/or personality? That kind of seems wrong...

I'm ZDP-189 (or ZDP189 where dashes are not permitted) an all knife and blacksmithing forums that I participate in.

Same name on knife forums. Known as hoss on candlepower forums (my very first joined forum several years ago.)

Heh, that's cool. I thought it would be the opposite, but it seems that most of us like to keep things simple and somewhat honest! :)

I forgot, on ebay I'm "Alice's Artwear" because that's the name I go by for the dog stuff I make. Still starts with an "A" though, so I get points for that! ;)

There's a forum or 2 that I go to (completely un-knife related) where I go by the name of "Phydeaux". This moniker long predates my current one. Green chicklets to anybody that can figure out where I got the name (there's actually 2 sources). I also used to play online games under the name "Lumpy Gravy" (and prior to that "Uncle Meat"). When I first started OL gaming, I went by "Spiny Norman".

For the most part though, I just use this one now. Mostly because all the above ones were taken when I tried something new.

A name that came to your dog in a dream and he's letting you use it? ;)

The only exception for me are forums where I had some sort of sign-in difficulties, as occurs generally. Usually a loss of the appropriate cookie, and then the thing won't let you sign in as your name is "in use".

I went round and round with admins on one gaming forum, and finally gave up and just made up another name.

I'm "Rugger" on a couple. Too hard to remember otherwise.
Isn't the "Phydeaux" a Zappa reference?

So, most of you use the same name because it's easier to remember? Or because it's become a sort of "identity"? I sometimes have to catch myself before I sign my emails "ashes" instead of my real name. :o

~l... or, I mean... ashes (We may have a wee bit of an identity problem. ;) )

Be more specific. ;)

Yup..."m1marty" in all the forums I belong to. What's funny is meeting people in real life and them saying "YOU'RE M1MARTY!?" :D
