Do you keep your RATs oiled?

Is it neccessary to keep the blades of an RC-3 or '6 oiled, or only the cutting edge where the steel is exposed? I'm asking because I usually keep my blades coated with CLP, but I washed my scales yesterday and the damned CLP keeps soaking into the handles and making them all nasty again.

Do I need to worry about the powder coated portions of the metal or only the edge and any gouges in the blade?

The powder coating will prevent rust...exposed surface area needs protection.
Although with regular use the rust shouldnt be a huge concern; alittle swipe from a rem. cloths works wonders.

I dont really bother. Now and then ill throw some vege oil n the blade but not too often. If you use them they will be fine

just use mineral oil. i keep mine oiled lightly. its not rocket science thats for sure.. i only oil the blad itself where its exposed.

I don't, its dry enough here (New Mexico) and I use my blades enough...but when it does get wet I dry it after I'm done using it before I re-sheath it. Unless its super humid where you are or you don't use it that often I would oil it.

+1. I just stripped the blade of my user Izula so I'll get to see how the whole thing stands up to corrosion. Peeled an apple this morning and a patina is already starting to develop.

I can't remember the last time I oiled my ESEE4. I did just baton some firewood yesterday so it takes care of the problem just as well, and it's even more fun!

I don't need no stinkin' oil! :D

I only oil the exposed metal on the edge (CLP). Corosion can quickly dull an edge and I like my knives razor sharp.

Anything coated seems to be very well protected, so I don't worry about oiling the entire knife.

I keep the exposed portions of the blade oiled, meaning the edge and the laser engravings. If I happened to get a little too much Rem Oil on the rag I'll wipe down the coated parts too.

if it ever starts to surface spot, then I'll worry about oil.
so far everything stays nice and shiny. (but then, this is the cold, "dry" season - hot, humid could be different - we'll see what it does this summer)

As the coating wears I just let it form a nice patina. When I use them at work they're always wet, so I dry them on my pants leg before sheathing. When I get home I take them out and let everything air dry. If any spotting pops up on the edge I just give it a couple strokes on the sharpmaker's fine rods.

As long as you use your blades, rust should not be a problem at all. That said, after I put them away I apply a light amount of oil onto the edge.

Never used oil on mine. just wipe them dry when you can. Don't worry, be happy:)

Nopers. Once in a while the blade edge will have some patina or crapola on it and I just use my strop for a bit and it is all nice and shiny again. Most of the coating is still on the blade luckily lol. Just need to make sure it is dry before putting it in the sheath.
