Do you let your knives walk and talk?

I snap them closed without hesitation. It is one of the ways I judge the quality of a slip joint knife.
same here. wouldn't be any "walk & talk" without letting them snap shut.
i am fussy about slamming my car doors, the car co.'s have that figured out.
i have a Schrade 136 sounds like a gator snapping!!! love it
let 'em snap shut.

I've noticed that on mine. There is slamming and then there is SLAMMING!;)

That's a universal problem with teenagers and car's :D . i like mine to click only when I am out and about . but when in public I.e restaurants I keep them quiat . come to think about it just like I do with the teenagers :D

I pretty much always ease the blade down quietly, and it annoys me if I show my knife to someone and they snap it closed. I doubt it really does any damage, but I can't help thinking it might if the blade is just a bit close to the backspring, or something. I probably look like my mom did when we'd slam the screen door. "You'll wear it out!"

This is what I do too. I do love the walk and talk and let them have their way occasionally, but only occasionally. Your quote about the screen door reminds me of my own mantra to my wife and sons regarding my cars doors, "Don't slam the door!".

This is how I feel as well! Only on rare occasions other wise gently guide it down. And even that depends on the knife in question. Almost all my knives are old and deserve the care, having made it this far. I do carry them but use them with care. I almost always have a "cutter" on my belt or pocket.

I open mine without much thought and I tend to close them on my leg. I hold the knife in my right hand and push the blade closed with my leg or hip. I suppose that is just letting it walk.

I let them walk and talk, unless I have one that's blade tends to barely touch the back spring. In this case I send it to Gary who installed a piece of cork in the bottom while he was putting an edge on foe me ;) and I close the blades slowly and ease them into the liners.

Depends on the knife...I have a couple of GEC Redneck's where the blade will make contact with the back spring if I let it fly when closing; the Farm & Field version Bullnose doesn't have that problem. If you have the least bit of concern of dinging a blade edge, I would simply assist the blade in closing, and forego that satisfying "snap".

I derive a lot of pleasure from the walk and talk of mine, so like they say, "Let the big dogs eat!" If the blade hits the spring, then out comes the belt sander followed by a sharpening session. I gotta let 'em sing!

Not really.
Actually, having grown up with friction folders, I'm used to closing my knives with both hands all the way down.

Yep. I'm right there with ya!

It depends on the situation. I have knives I use at work that get tough use. Many times I am busy and in a hurry enough that one hand does it all. My main work knife I can one hand open and close, this allows my other hand to be busy too. That knife gets closed one hand on my hip or thigh.

When I am not busy at work I take my time opening and closing the blade. I love the feel of when the tension releases the stored energy of the spring, I just don't feel it when closing the blade in a hurry. I am rarely in to much of a hurry to enjoy the feel of the spring working when I am not at work. That's why my at work knife comes out of the toolbox when I open the shop and the other knife goes in. It's also why I carry multiple knives during the work day, and occasionally the off days.

We often talk about walk and talk in our slip-joint knives but do you let your knife do it on a regular basis. I actually realize that I don't let my knives do it. It is just a habit I do when I close them up whether with a halfstop or not. I slowly place the blade into place. The same happens when I open the blade but I do allow a little bit of noise (walk?). How about you? do you let your knives do what they want to do or are you a more controlling type? :)

I don't think I ever really paid much attention to it. Unless I'm someplace where noise would be an unwarranted distraction, I just close the knife and let it make whatever noise it's going to make.

I don't think I've really given it much consideration before this thread. I just close em. Sometimes they snap, sometimes not. As long as its closed is good enough for me.

Sure I do if they have good walk and talk and by that I mean won't be caused damage by closing as vocally as they'd like to. Only knives I've had that rolled in the close were my laguioles so I ease them in. But talk happens on half stops and full open too. I have this old LF&C that just sings through its half stop and open.
