Do you like assisted opening knives?

Enlightening responses here. Like OTFs, AO knives got my attention, and I certainly wouldn’t mind owning one in the future. For now though, call me old-fashioned but I’m still mainly a manual folder man. I never had a manual knife yet that’s slow to deploy or less than reliable.

AO's are ok and they certainly scratch the itch I might have for an auto, even though for the most part, they are too similar in action to an auto, both require a little dexterity (and another limb) to close. But since auto's are a no-no up here, and that ain't ever gonna change, AO it is.

Now OTF's...I would love to have one of those...sigh...

Isn't that the government....can't have an AO, but you can have a fixed blade. LOL
Here it is illegal to have a knife as a weapon, AO is seen as the type of knife to be used as a weapon.

Fixed blade is a tool because of it's sthrenght and durability.

But double edged fixed blades and trench knives are also illegal since they are designed to be used primarily as a weapon.

Using a tool in self defense scenario is also legal, and using a weapon is not though. Weird law, but that's how it is.

Manual or Automatic for me. D/A OTF is now my favorite.

Assisted opening flippers make no sense to me. A smooth well executed pivot is better in my opinion.

I don’t look after AO knives but I have nothing against it

my first “good” knife was a ZT 0350 that is a great design
The torsion bar has never failed on me and IMO for a tactical knife the AO has some advantages

my preference goes to washer/manual folders but good bearings or good AO are still good ;)

I think the one-handed openers I have (all Benchmade) make more sense for me. I don't really see the point of assisted opening knives. I liked the idea of the OTF UTX-85 I bought a few weeks ago but it was so difficult to activate, especially closing, that I returned it within a couple days.
