I like assisted opening knives and was looking for a new one when I came across the RAM. What do you'll like dislike about the RAM?
Any other knives that are similar to the RAM?

And who has a good price on the RAM?

Thanks

I just got a RAM for Christmas. I was holding off for the steel change over in January (from the standard 13c26 to the new 14c28N), but my wife went and got the Ram for a stocking stuffer, and by am I glad she did:D. I think it is the perfect EDC knife. It is not an AO but man does it feel like one. The flipper opens great from any angle either right or left handed. Crazy sharp out of the box and a little Sharpmaker love make the edge down right scary, it holds an edge really well, also. I have used it to break down a bunch of cardboard boxes, cut a lot of toys from packaging etc, It is still really sharp. The only complaint I have about the knife is the G10 on the handles may be a little too "grippy" I work at a hospital in the ER part time and have to wear scrubs so I will have to carry my RAM IWB as my scrubs have no pockets. I am afraid the G10 will "eat" my scrubs up pretty quick, but I don't think this will be a problem with jeans. As for similar knives I think the only knife in the ballpark is the ZT 0500 MUDD which is by all accounts a great knife but it is huge, The only other knives similar to these would be the customs by Grant and Gavin Hawk the designers of the RAM and the MUDD.

hunter.

nice review. consider talking to firebert about some wood scales. my ebony scales are a huge addition. they widen the handle to make it fit super comfy and they are smooth as butter (but still allow for good solid grip).

I love mine. My only criticism is the sliding switch. I wished it was mounted further up the handle.

Actually, I would classify this as an A/O knife. The spring on the switch helps move the blade out quite well. Try it.

Free radical according to Gavin Hawk there is no assist on the RAM in this thread here.http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=583525 (see post #2) :D

Who has a good price, I'm looking to buy one for me and another for my brother?

I found excuses not to buy the RAM for months, but I do truly like the knife after carrying it for a while and "workin through the quirks"

Pros:
Awesome blade shape
Extremely solid lock
Crazy fast opening
Good blade shape
Multiple carry options
Can be opened a ton of ways
Great 1-handed operation, both opening and closing

Cons:
Choil - the grip is only three finger without the choil, with the choil, the grip is too long.
Clip was really stiff and with the G-10, I couldnt get the knife out of my pocket when clipped. Fix - pry the clip 0.5mm from the G-10.

Firebert is working on some scales for me now. Should be after the holidays sometime.
The R.A.M. opens the fastest of any knife I have, not that I need it to be quick, but really helps when you only have 1 hand free.

I like the R.A.M. because of it's blade shape, awesome lock, and excellent use of handle space. It's an extremely good design and a very good flipper. The only thing that I didn't like was the choil for your middle finger was too deep. I ended up giving mine away, mostley because of the improved lock design on the R.A.M. III, which is supposed to be lined up for production sometime down the road.

Great review hunter.

I have small/med hands. How small are your hands, J.?

Cons:
Choil - the grip is only three finger without the choil, with the choil, the grip is too long.

Check out these two videos. This one is of SladeGT40 showin' off. ;)

This one shows how the lock works.

Thanks Vincent I appreciate the compliment. I just wish you hadn't posted Slade's video, I am afraid its gonna cost me a few stitches  I guess I had better ask the wife where she hid my suture kit :D

Just be carefull where your fingers are when you swing it closed.
Don't ask me how I know that. :D

Thanks everyone for your comments. I just ordered me a RAM from Sportco for $44.95.

I'm excited, haven't bought a new knife in a while!

My other gripe is that the the button is hard on the thumb. I noticed you have thumb skin on one of your RAM buttons like on mine in the first photo.
I like how the wood scales are hollowed out around the button in the second photo. Looks much more thumb friendly.
