Do you like your current beater knife?

not particularly

damn cold steel voyager won't take a decent edge and won't hold the crappy edge. i'm basically trying my damndest to break the stupid thing

I think the knife you carry most is your "beater" knife. For my preference it is the Spyderco Military. I use it everyday and find that I am carrying it more than any other knife out of the 25 that I own. It out cuts all of my other folders. It won't beat my Fowler for heavy duty use, but then that is a fixed blade. All else gets seperated by the Milli.

I don't really have a beater knife. I carry the knives I like the best, at that point in time. Currently I carry my "waved" Endura. I always have a Leatherman Charge or Wave with me, which I guess, would be used for heavy chores.

My beater was a Mini Pika.I lost it and now waiting for UPS to drop off a new beater the Kar- Bar Dozier.

I don't own any expensive knives. All of my knives are probably beater knives to you guys. But my 'most beater' knife is a stainless steel liner lock knife I bought from my foreman for 5 bucks. It says "Police Issue" on it. No idea what brand it is.

I don't abuse it or any of my knives, but it is just a piece of junk (more so than any of my others) so I use it when I want to save my other knives from the wear and tear of whatever job is at hand.

All I need to cut at work is plastic wrap and plastic newspaper straps, and it does that just fine. So I bring it to work since it can do the job and I don't care if I lose it or it breaks.

I do bring other knives to work sometimes to mix it up, since all of my knives are easily replacable.

Do I like it? Yeah. I am not as serious about knives as most of you guys seem. I just like collecting cheap folding knives (because the cheaper they are, the more different ones I can buy for the same money), and I don't place a lot of demands on knives. Like I said, I only have to cut plastic wrap and straps, which any POS knife can do. So I do like my crappy "Police Issue" stainless steel knife because I don't need any better, and I don't have any experience with better knives.

I will be buying some better and better knives, though, as I have started to get more serious about them.

My beater knives are a FRN Endura plainedge and a large supply of Opinels. I love them all and pound them mercilessly.:D

I made my beater by myself in an unknown carbon steel. 5" fixed blade, empirical heat treatement. I chop iron wire, pry, dig the ground and it's still there. Not the knife of the year, not beautiful at all and i'll never show pics of it but i'm proud to have made it with my two left hands.

My beaters are my Cold Steel Bushman and Kukri machete, and they do a great job, both in my truck and for gardening, brush clearing etc. My beater folder is my Native III, and that is a great EDC.

I EDC 3 knives myself,
a 710,705 an a Gerber Truss.

The Truss is the goto knife for all things ugly or threatning to a edged impliment, i really did not mind the knife for the price paid, atleast untill i learned of their copyright infringing ways.

Since then, it has been abused imho, cutting wires an anything i want severed.

Although, it has suprised me of its edge retention, being made up of used shopping carts an such, it holds an edge for longer then i thought.

I guess, i do like it after all, its cheap an easy, an i wont lose a minutes sleep, if i bust it.(Well, i'll still feel bad lol)

Yup I do like my beaters. My old beaters were CS Voyagers but they've been lost. I haven't really replaced them but for the dirty work I use a Vic SAK. More handy than I thought they were, I love my SAKs. :)

My beater is a SRKW Howling Rat, and I absolutly love it, its a great knife, and it can take anything.

My favorite beater knife is my Schrade Beast mostly because as the name says its a beast. I put that thing through hell back in Highschool and early university working at a KFC. It also accompanied me on a mission trip to Mexico many years ago where it served for everything from cutting tar paper to prying boards apart. It's just one of those knives that I've had kicking around long before I ever owned benchmades, ka-bars and such. The serrations on it are almost gone, the handle butt has a few chips and scrapes, but it still takes an edge and locks up solid.

My beater would have to be the Schrade UH senior stockman I carry. I never worry about it, I don't even take especially good care of it. Its just there when I need it, which is why I like it.

My beater is my yellow, SE Spyderco Salt I. It's the perfect beater because the SE seems to cut better and better as it wears down, it never needs to be cleaned or cared for for rust issues, and it wasn't very expensive. I only tke it to work, where I do all my heavy duty cutting, and carry my nicer knives any other time. I love the thing.

I got one of the first Spyderco Militaries back in about 1996, that knife has been my beater since about 1999 and it still does an excellent job. A real testimony to how well it was made because I have used it for every nasty chore I could think of.

Hey all , my beater is a knife that basically started me out in knife making .
( I made it but its not a great edge holder )Might have been my 2nd knife ever thats from start to finish mine but I don't mind any thing happening to it and it's too soft to break . I just sharpen it ALOT and thats easy with my shop and all.
The best thing is that its always at my hip no matter where or when I need it.

My main beaters are a Cold Steel Recon tanto and a Spyderco Delica. I've used the Recon Tanto to chop concrete, chop 2x4s and split wood with good results. I've really tried to beat it to death because I'm not that fond of it, but it keeps on working. Makes me want to buy an SRK.

The Delica is the knife I use at work and it gets subjected to a lot of cardboard, plastic bags and hard plastics.
