Do you not understand this is a Damascus Mnandi?

Gosh had a great weekend! So I was at a party Saturday night and was asked by a friend to borrow my knife. Anxiety came over me:) I asked what do you need it for? He answered just need to cut something. Now usually I always have a backup knife for such occasions. But that night I only had my Damascus Mnandi. Now I know what you are thinking "CRKS are meant to be used". I had already made the decision to use it as my edc so use was not the issue. But not knowing exactly what my buddy was going to cut and how bothered me. So I hovered over him and at that moment knew I am a knifenut! Love it! From now on I will be carrying my alox as well. Anyone else had a similar experience? Here is my new edc;)

I have to some extent. I had a plain large insingo (it was brand new) when I first started carrying CRKs. This was, at the time, my highest-dollar knife. My father in law asked to borrow my knife. I was a little axious also, but this was my father in law. What was I going to say? "no, my knife is too nice and expensive to use"? I handed it to him. He needed to cut the plastic wrap from around a case of water bottles. He ended up slicing through about half of the water bottles as well. He said "damn! This knife is really sharp!"
I don't have any damascus or anything too fancy for that reason. I know I would be too afraid to use it. I have been carrying a plain jane large tanto and have beat it to hell. I've sharpened it myself on my wicked edge (I'm still learning-so carefully). I don't mind using it like it was meant because it's nothing too unique that can't be replaced.
I do understand the knifenut thing! I probably wouldn't even carry a dam. mnandi for fear of losing it or scratching it.

I sympathize. I'm old enough now that I would just tell someone I don't loan my knife out, but I'll be glad to cut something for him. Not a way to make friends, but like I say, I'm old and don't care much anymore :)

For a $465 knife, i dont plan on loaning it out, ill do the cut, thanks though. I should start keeping my ESEE izulla 2 near by to loan out. Or my mini grip, though that one is likely going to be sold to provide some funds to a custom since the blade length is just smaller than I like.

I as well never loan out my knife. I just politely offer to cut what ever needs to be cut for them. If need be I'll offer an excuse like it's very sharp and would hate to see them hurt themselves ( I seen that happen to many times before)

Ericlose no disrespect meant at all but I would be careful in the future, it sounds a bit to much like you are trying to solicit a sale without a gold membership.

Always, always carry a donor knife. You will find a victorinox climber in my back pocket for loaning out to non knife folk. Cheap enough to replace.

I learned my lesson a long time ago.

I don't sell drugs J :D

Thanks for the heads up. I'll likely memberup at some point. I was planning to list the knife else where and am in no way trying to get my self in trouble here. I want access to the knowledge!

I have loaned out my large CF 21 to a buddy at work, didn't think twice. It's a knife I want it to be used as long as its not used like a screw driver. If I had a damascus I'm not sure how that would influence me.

No problem just wanted to throw that out there before some one who means something could give a warning.
To add to the thread this is what I carried today

The Charlow was the cheapest thing in my pockets today and there is still no way I would loan it out.

Now that's a great EDC for sure! Adding to the story my buddy had seen me use the knife earlier and I was holding my baby girl when he asked me:) It was not really a big deal in the use of the knife I was just shocked that I got anxiety! Love my CRK!

Got a Leatherman Wave on my belt for such occasions,, for a friend I open it, for a knucklehead I just hand it to them! Bart

I have to admit I've actually looked the other way when someone has asked if anyone has a knife after examining what they were going to cut. The last time I can remember was at a Christmas party and someone wanted to cut small pieces of wire that we're holding a toy to a box. I thought to myself that might really mess up the edge I just put on my knife. I then let someone else offer up their knife. :o

Yes sure. I lended my lg Sebenza, bocote inlay, for some kitchen duty - what can go wrong?
Got it back with shiny lengths on the edge. Can't be? I thought. Then I found the the cutting board where it did it's work.
Some kind of synthetic that took the edge. I restored the edge with a Spydie Sharpmaker.
For me it is only wooden cutting boards.
When I checked the other kitchen knives I found quite some work for the Sharpmaker.
There were quite some knives that were used on the synthetic cutting boards and then placed in the dishwasher.
Now that's what I call a dangerous environment.

A multitool is always a good idea, since for most knife-abuses you need a screwdriver.

That's actually a pretty well thought idea.

I'm kinda with Locutus on this. Unless I see what the intended cut will be I won't lone it. I do carry my knives to use, but only how "I" decide. No backups for idiots not knowing what not to cut.... wire?? DOH!

Someone at my work needed a knife, and turned around and looked directly at me, and said, "I KNOW you have a knife on you!" With his arm outstretched, I had no choice put to hand him over my beloved Sebby 25! I hovered over him too while he used it! He used it to cut out some graphics on a piece of cardboard. He laid the piece on a table and cut it out like you would using a box cutter.

I examined the edge in private a few minutes later:p

That's funny .... I can feel the cold sweat running ...

I always have a small sebenza, but I never admit that I have anything ;)

Why I never clip knife to pocket, stays in leather.

Great Posts Brothers! Most people will not understand, but here we all are pretty much on the same page! How I rationalized the situation was I needed a real user if I ran into such circumstances again! So I ordered up a small Tanto Sebenza first thing Monday morning!
