Do you obsess over scratches, dents, knicks etc on your knives?

Not anymore, after all they are made with premium materials to be used. Funny thing, when I first started getting into knives I would baby my $100 Spydies. Now I just received my small Sebenza and looking for every excuse to give it some hard use :) There are some great pics of used and scratched up Sebenzas on the forum and they look even better imo.

Or my normal blades I could care less. I don't buy any black blades for normal use because they look sweet until you get some nicks in them and I think they loose their appeal.

I reallly dont anymore When I first started collecting I cared about dings and blemishes on some of my higher end ones that I really didnt intend to use.

The only knives I get pissed about dings and chips are my kitchen knives. I know that I dont put them there and that gets me extra pissed.

My fixed/folder knives I could care less if they are scratched, dinged or chipped. If I mess an edge up I get happy to practice my sharpening skills.

If there are only 10, 11 or 12 or so made, a one off prototype or a special gift, they aren't carried. Anything else goes in the pocket and will end up with "character".

All my users will get some major character at some point. My edc sebenza has lots of scratches and such. Not so many in the blade, but the handle is quite scratched, as is the clip. I havent really been edcing much other knives these past few months

I used my XM-18 to slice up a bunch of sandpaper for some kind of school project for my niece. I only hate it when the edge gets messed up. After doing something like cutting up a bunch of sandpaper, I can't wait to get a hair-splitting edge back on it. It irks the hell out of me to know that the knife I have on me isn't sharp.

+1! thats one of my biggest pet peeves. i feel like the knife is almost just extra weight if its not sharp. I don't really mind scratches/nicks but it depends on how much i like a knife. if i really like it (and can afford it), i buy two. one for use, and one for the collection. if i only have one, i may use it but not heavily and try not to mess it up. as long as it has a nice, sharp edge and operates/locks up properly im fine. i do hate rust and stains though.

they're tools so I use them as they should be used.

but yes... I do obsess about scratches and knicks lol :P

After its first sharpening the whole blade is usually covered in scratches. Or completely re-beveled.

Man, scratches dings and dents are a huge issue to me. I don't own any high dollar knives, but I try to keep mine looking new as long as possible. When they do get scuffed I try to polish or buff it away. I'm the same way with watches...
