I'm just curious; how many folks own a cowboy hat, do you wear it, what style is it?

Yes I do. Mostly Stetson 4X, and a few cheapie "crush-proofs" from Shepler's (?). (See, I'm only a Northerner by 'residence', in my heart I'm just another Southern redneck and proud of it! :) ) I wear them occasionally; usually when I attend the National Finals Rodeo in Vegas or when I go see Asleep At The Wheel in concert somewhere.

However, I do have a very fine selection of custom made boots (most designed by me and made by Gary Tucker (retired) in Vegas. Not only have I worn Western boots since high school ,but now that I'm old and decrepit, I like the support they give me (heel spur, plantar fasciitis).

Yeehawww!!!:D

Stetson is probably the best know name for hats. When I think Stetson I think of more modern Rodeo style hats. Here's a chart with creases and brims, can you find your style on here?

For example the straw hat I own right now is basically a Roughstock crease with a Rodeo brim. I've had it for over 20 years, it's showing it's age (not a problem) but it doesn't fit any more (problem).

Phil , I see from the VS TV channel that the rodeo is coming to NYC ,you have an excuse to wear a cowboy hat !!

No. But I do have boots and Wrangler jeans that I put on from time to time.

I have a black Stetson "Gun Club" that I wear in the woods but never ever wear in public places like restaurants, bars, movie theatres, etc.

Even though I live in the Southwest, I don't own or wear a cowboy hat or boots. We have enough real horse people and cowboys around that they don't need me dressed that way.
;)

Hey thanks for the heads-up about the Rodeo, but to be honest with you I don't need an excuse to wear a cowboy hat. ;)

Holger, I just ordered a cheapie "crushable" I want to use it as a winter hat and to see if I like wearing one.

Check out Colorado Mountain Hats (cmhats.com). They make a very nice 100% beaver felt hat in any style you want. Top quality at a reasonable price. I have one and would not be without it. It will also last a lifetime.

I wear a Baily that is according to the chart has a tycoon crease and a snap brim. I have a bunch of Acubras of different styles.I am never seen in public with out my hat that is sort my trademark. In remote Eskimo villages the kids call me cowboy. Actually my hat style is more of a fadora.I wear a hat with a narrow brim and try to avoid the big hat no horse image.

yep crushable felt right now, getting a bit old, had a leather one before that, bout time for a new one.

I wear a broad brimmed felt hat when hunting. Here in the Pacific NW it gets awful wet and I really like the wide brim and felt in that situation.
Other then that, I used to wear a Stetson in my younger years. I worked for a hunting outfitter in Montana, it fit the situation. I'm more urbanized nowdays, and by no means an urban cowboy.

I had one when I was a kid and we had horses. I don't see the point if I don't have horses, never was a poseur.

I wear an Ausie oilskin hat, it has a wide brim to keep neck from getting any redder then it allready is.

Yup - both my wife and I have Stetsons. Pretty well normal fair for Stampedin':D Normally worn for Stampede Week, though.
